But why work for Duco?*
As a 100% SaaS (software as a service) company, our customers’ success is at the heart of what we do. We take great pride in seeing how the partnership we build with each customer makes a real difference to them. Our unique software makes their lives better by helping them solve their most complex data problems.
We take the same approach with our own employees. We love seeing people succeed and grow in their roles, enjoying what they do and getting great results. This philosophy is embedded in our culture. It’s one reason why our Glassdoor feedback shows 91% of our people would recommend us as an employer to a friend, and 98% approve of the CEO.

We give every employee a voice in what Duco does and how it gets done. We communicate honestly and openly, whether the news is good or bad, and we give trust and support rather than micromanaging. We believe that everyone should feel really proud of what they do and have the opportunity to learn and develop in their careers.

A role with huge scope and potential:
This is a great time to be joining a dynamic global team as it scales to meet the evolving needs of our business. You'll have the opportunity to develop the Legal function in the US and internationally. Working alongside our two London-based qualified lawyers, you’ll be negotiating service contracts for our rapidly growing business, and partnering with our global business teams by delivering on-point, succinct commercial advice. Best of all, you'll be helping to shape the legal frameworks around SaaS (‘Software as a Service’) and cloud services delivery in the financial services industry, negotiating against some of its biggest players.
Day to day, you can expect to:
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts with our customers and prospects including top-tier banks, hedge funds and insurers
- Work closely with stakeholders, reviewing draft agreements and associated commercial risks and ensuring all steps of the contract lifecycle are completed in a timely fashion.
- Partner with the Sales function to enable them and continuously improve the contracting process
- Be involved in providing advice on compliance and other matters including data protection issues, to the business
- Support the teams on governance related matters
- Act as a business partner to help structure and provide legal advice to all parts of the company
- Manage relationships with external counsel
- Create and improve legal team processes, such as maintaining templates and harnessing legal tech tools to drive efficiencies
A flexible working environment designed to fit your life:
You should be in commuting distance to either our New York or Boston office, but we’re not an ‘in office 5 days a week’ type of company. You will be expected to be in the office sometimes to build relationships with your stakeholders, as we consider deep connections as key to our success, but we also highly value flexibility and allowing our people to determine the working cadences and environment that helps them be their best. We're all adults here, after all!
*
Does Duco sound right for you? We hope so!*
*
This is what you’ll need to be successful: *

- Confident in client-facing negotiations of commercial contracts, ideally in the technology space
- Adept at objection handling and managing negotiations
- Exceptional organizational skills; detail oriented and having a demonstrable ability to provide thorough, accurate, and timely support
- Successfully applies complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures

- Able to produce innovative and motivated solutions, taking ownership of problems when they arise
- Capacity to simultaneously manage multiple priorities
- Possessing emotional intelligence to assess situations and confidence to use initiative
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including being able to quickly gain credibility and respect from stakeholders
- Strong academic qualifications (though not necessarily a JD or other law degree)
But remember - no one is expected to be perfect!
If you aren’t sure that you have every single trait we’ve listed, please don’t let it put you off applying. We review all applications with real interest, and we believe in supporting people’s personal development and career growth. We’re not necessarily looking for ‘the perfect candidate’ with years of experience, gold medals and superpowers!

This is what to expect in Duco’s hiring process: *
We know research shows that long lists of requirements can make some applicants more hesitant to apply. With that in mind, please know that we are not looking for a super hero who ticks every single box. Duco considers every application carefully and looks for the success potential of each applicant. Furthermore, we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive work environment where all employees and applicants are treated with respect. It is Duco's policy to provide an equitable opportunity for all candidates; if you require an accommodation during the application or interview process, please send a message to talent@du.co. Please include your name, contact information, the title of the role you're applying for, and a brief description of how we can accommodate you.

We review applications on a rolling basis. Our interview process typically will be three to four steps - an initial screening, a technical assessment where you’ll have an opportunity to show off your skills and thought process, and conversations with some colleagues and key stakeholders. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the global distribution of our staff, all interviews are being conducted via Google Meet video conferencing.
