Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer leads all financial functions for Armstrong Utilities. This includes, but is not limited to, budgeting/planning, financial and regulatory reporting, financial analysis, and procurement.

The CFO will serve as a credible, knowledgeable, and trusted financial resource and advisor to the Executive Management Team. You will play a key role in the company’s strategy development and M&A activity.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll do a lot of great things in this role and have the opportunity to expand into other areas, but the key responsibilities you can expect to perform on a regular basis include:

  • Manage the ongoing development, review, distribution, and analysis of all recurring financial and operational reports which result in identifiable and actionable recommendations that drive business process, financial and operational improvement.
  • Develop an environment in which ad hoc operational and financial analysis is being conducted which identifies new opportunities for business improvement.
  • Supervise the timely preparation, review, documentation, accuracy, and distribution of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (internal and external) including but not limited to income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, local management reports, statistics reports, capital expenditure reports and labor productivity/utilization reports.
  • Prepare relevant, meaningful, and comprehensive financial management reports which provide comparisons of actuals versus budget and historical trends.
  • Prepare all quarterly FIT tax estimates by the required due date.
  • Coordinate with external auditors in the preparation of the final audit report and secure internal approval resulting in final reports being issued by January 31 after the fiscal year-end.
  • Annual Budget & 5 Year Business Plan
  • Coordinate the development, review, and final approval of the annual financial/operational budget.
  • Develop the annual budget based on (a) a reliable, accurate model, (b) incorporating valid business assumptions and (c) incorporating the input of key employees.
  • Incorporate into the review and analysis of the annual budgeting process (a) meaningful/relevant metrics, (b) comparisons versus prior periods and (c) documented explanations for material changes.
  • Provide strategic, financial, and operational direction to internal General Managers, Directors and VPs to develop and maintain an appropriate level of financial acumen and promote an environment of accountability and fiscal responsibility.
  • Oversee team of analysts that are embedded in various operating departments providing decision support tools to improve operational performance and financial results.
  • Conduct recurring (i.e., monthly/quarterly) financial and operational reviews with key business leaders.
  • Responsible for corporate purchasing. Participates in the negotiation of contracts with external vendors (i.e., contract labor, programming, equipment, materials, etc.) and ensures contract compliance is followed.
  • Develop and implement intercompany services strategy and agreements both intra and inter company. Work with Armstrong Group CFO on intercompany strategy and implementation.
  • Provide strategic financial input and vision on decision making issues affecting operational performance.
  • Participate in the financial and operational due diligence and/or financial modeling associated with potential acquisitions or new product/service offerings.
  • Monitor, evaluate and produce industry and market benchmark data/trends.


What Sets You Apart?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA and/or MBA preferred)
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting and/or financial analysis with a track record of increasing responsibility
  • Superior analytical skills
  • Proficient with software packages such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong understanding of ERP, Billing, and Reporting systems
  • Experience collaborating with business leaders and working across functional areas to articulate financial priorities and influence decisions to improve financial results.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
