Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the Executive Leadership team, reporting directly to the President and working closely with the Board of Directors to manage the financial resources of Saint Xavier High School, ensuring continued alignment with the school's mission and vision. The CFO, as a strategic partner, oversees the planning, control, accounting, and reporting of income, expenses, and funds. Combining analytical expertise and visionary leadership, the CFO drives long-term financial strength for Saint Xavier High School.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Shape and execute financial strategies that align with the mission and vision of Saint Xavier High School.
- Ensure financial strategies are integrated into overall operations of the school, maximizing resources and efficiency.
- Develop and manage multi-year plans to ensure the long-term financial health of the school.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and financing of major construction and capital projects as directed by the President and Board of Directors.
- Manage financial reporting, analysis, and the implementation of systems and technology to support informed decision making.
- Lead and manage the Business Office and Facilities Departments.
- Financial Stewardship & Budgeting
- Manage the school's endowment, annuities, and unitrusts.
- Develop, manage and review annual an multi-year financial plans, ensuring alignment with the school's goals.
- Collaborate with the President, Executive Leadership team, and Directors to assemble and prioritize departmental budget requests.
- Recommend annual tuition increases, financial assistance allocations, and salary adjustments in consultation with the President.
- Approve financial obligations, including real estate transactions, contracts, and other financial commitments.
- Prepare the annual budget proposal for the Board of Directors.
- Monitor financial performance, adjusting strategies as necessary to meet financial goals.
- Verify that expenditures align with the approved budget, ensuring that any deviations have prior approval from the appropriate authority.
- Negotiate and oversee` contract with food service provider.
- Oversee payroll processing.
- Manage risk by ensuring appropriate insurance policies, including property, liability, and workers' compensation.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations.
- School-Wide Duties
- Participate in school committees as needed and appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Executive Leadership team on a wide range of school decisions related to institutional priorities, long-term goals, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement in operational areas.
- Attend school-wide events to ensure full involvement in the school community.
- Other duties as assigned by the President or Board of Directors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration required.
- CPA strongly preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in financial strategy development and execution.
- Experience with legal and risk management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing and developing teams.
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, accounting software, and database management.
- Experience in an independent school or non-profit environment is preferred.
- Active member of the Catholic Church or strong understanding of its teachings and values preferred.
