Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership across our portfolio, ensuring financial strength, compliance, and operational efficiency while driving growth initiatives. The CFO will oversee all financial aspects of our businesses, including Energy Alberta, Paradise Spirits, and other family ventures. This role requires a leader with deep financial, operational, and regulatory expertise, capable of managing diverse business units across multiple industries and international markets.


Location:

The CFO will be based at our headquarters in Calgary, Alberta, with potential travel to operational sites, distribution networks, and investor meetings.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the short- and long-term objectives of our nuclear, spirits, and family businesses.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, and risk management for all business entities.
  • Provide executive leadership with financial insights, investment strategies, and capital allocation plans to drive growth.
  • Evaluate new business opportunities, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships to enhance enterprise value.

Financial Operations & Risk Management

  • Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management for all business units.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance across highly regulated industries (nuclear energy, spirits, and consumer markets).
  • Manage corporate tax planning, financial controls, and governance.
  • Lead risk management strategies, including hedging, currency exposure, and interest rate risk mitigation.

Capital & Investment Management

  • Secure financing and investment for large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
  • Manage working capital and growth financing for the tequila business and other ventures.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with banks, investors, and financial institutions.
  • Oversee mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, particularly in international financial transactions.

Operational & Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performance finance team across multiple business units.
  • Implement and optimize financial systems, ERP solutions, and accounting frameworks.
  • Drive efficiency in financial operations, cost controls, and profitability analysis.
  • Partner with CEOs, COOs, and key business leaders to support operational excellence.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of executive financial leadership in energy, infrastructure or regulated industries.
  • Proven ability to oversee diverse business portfolios and drive financial performance across multiple industries, with a strong focus on international operations in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
  • Extensive experience in company sales processes, mergers, and acquisitions, including structuring and executing international financial transactions.
  • High-level negotiation, capital allocation, and deal-making skills, particularly in cross-border transactions.
  • Strong strategic thinker with a track record of executing large-scale financial strategies.
  • Exceptional ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and evolving market landscapes.
  • Experience balancing corporate best practices with the dynamics of a family-owned business.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing finance teams in a fast-paced, multinational environment.
  • Deep expertise in financial regulations, corporate governance, risk management, and compliance across North American markets.
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
