Minnesota Housing is hiring! We’re a mission-focused financial institution looking for a Director of Finance who will play an integral part in the Agency's mission by ensuring liquidity needs are met through timely bond transactions, and analysis that illustrates liquidity needs and management of the funds. The position is responsible for investment of the agency's cash that is used to provide housing and operational needs. This position leads an accounting and finance team of 22 highly experienced team members who are responsible for the accurate reporting of financial data through the development of the audited financial statements and annual report.

Essential Job Duties

  • Collaborate with the agency Executive Finance Officer to meet the agency’s financial mission and goals.
  • Manage the agency’s balance sheet ($8.1 billion total assets) to achieve the mission of the Agency, while ensuring the Agency's long-term financial viability and satisfying bondholder obligations.
  • Manage the Finance team, consisting of three Housing Finance Analysts, Director of Financial Analysis, and the Controller. The Controller manages the 15-person accounting team as well as Facilities. The Director of Financial Analysis manages one person.
  • Provide guidance to the accounting ad finance teams on GASB pronouncements and GAAP reporting.
  • Assist in management of the Agency’s income statement, providing all earnings to pay for Agency administration “foundation”, loans, and grants.
  • Assist in the leadership and management of financial operations in the accounting department and in external and internal financial reporting.
  • Lead, motivate, mentor and develop staff to achieve outcomes in an efficient and effective manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of leadership experience, including management of employees.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Five (5) years of directly related finance experience including preparation and review of financial and management reports, or management of the income statement.
    • A Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting may substitute for 6 months of experience
  • Expert knowledge of Excel to include VLookup, pivot tables, etc.
  • Experience determining, developing, and executing effective financial policies and directives.
  • Ability to anticipate and critically analyze a broad range of problems and issues, determine root causes, conceptualize and implement solutions to resolve them
  • Experience implementing processes that incorporate GASB pronouncements and GAAP requirements.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods used in the analysis and development of financial forecasting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background experience in financial institution and/or bank management.
  • Familiarity with municipal bond issuance, specifically related to housing bonds.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools.
