Chief Financial Officer

Sacred Heart Academy Bryn Mawr (SHA) seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The ideal candidate is a relational and collaborative leader who demonstrates creative, strategic and critical thinking, cultural competency, emotional intelligence, and a sense of humor. The CFO will report to the Head of School and serve as an integral member of the School’s nine-member senior leadership team. Directing all financial activities of the School including facilities and operations, the CFO will also be a collaborative and strategic partner with the Business Manager, members of the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, Director of Advancement, and Director of Enrollment Management.
The CFO will provide leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of SHA’s financial resources while ensuring absolute institutional integrity on fiscal matters, promoting best practices in finance and administration. As a strategic leader, the CFO will attend Board meetings as necessary to serve as the institution’s chief fiscal and fiduciary officer and to issue financial and management statements and reports. The CFO will act as a liaison to the Board and external stakeholders; provide strategic leadership and advice for stewarding the school’s financial resources; and hold responsibility for financial strategy decisions that align with the mission and vision of the School. The CFO will oversee accounting, finance, and budget activities and work with the Head of School to oversee risk management. The CFO will be responsible for ancillary and support services including property management and outsourced services such as dining. The CFO serves as the staff liaison on several Board committees, including Finance and Investment and others as prescribed by the Head of School.

Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the School’s fiscal policies, programs, and practices including the development, administration, and reporting of the annual operating budget and the short- and long-range financial plan.
- Provide transparent financial reporting and planning that builds trust among administrators, faculty and staff, students and alumni, parents, and trustees.
- Develop and collaborate on internal communications and data sets to effectively track, analyze, and report on financial, admissions, and fundraising areas to the administration and Board of Trustees.
- Serve as liaison to the Finance and Investment Committees of the Board, working closely with Committee chairs and creating agendas and meeting materials.
- Oversee the annual financial and 403(b) plan audits and filings.
- Manage the daily business operations of the School, including tuition billing, payroll, accounts payable, purchasing to achieve both day-to-day operational excellence, legal compliance, and to support the strategic goals identified by the Board and the administrative leadership.
- Oversee all School operations, including technology, maintenance, security, and food service.
- Manage human resources to provide sound and consistent employment policies and appropriate benefits programs. Implement and administer all employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement, and other related plans.
- Collaborate with the School’s counsel, finance, and insurance agents regarding all legal and risk management matters including reporting requirements, renewals, and audits.
- Collaborate with the Head of School and other senior administrators on providing leadership regarding employee hiring, termination, and management.
- With the Facilities Manager, help plan and direct all replacements and renewals of the physical plant.
- Advise and oversee the execution of major capital projects and any other on-campus construction.
- Serve as a member of the Financial Aid Committee.
- Collaborate with the Business Manager regarding facilities rental activities.

Desired Experience And Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field preferred; CPA preferred not required
- 7-10+ years of directly related experience required; experience administering the Pennsylvania Education Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit Program (OSTC) a plus
- Experience serving as a key strategic and business partner to senior leadership; experience working with nonprofit boards a strong plus
- Relevant management experience; specific experience in independent school settings a strong plus
