Our client is a human services non-profit in Suffolk County that offers services and programs to assist the community. They are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$170k - $190k+ Depending on experience

Position Overview

The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for leadership of finance and shared services, including budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, audit, investing, credentialing, insurance contracting, third-party billing, payroll, maintenance, facilities, housekeeping, real estate, vendor negotiations, records management, grants administration, cash flow analysis, and information technology. This Chief Financial Officer will also lead the Finance, Facilities, and Information Technology teams and will ensure the systems and procedures are in place to support effective program implementation and conduct audits. The Chief Financial Officer will partner with the Fundraising department to reveal costs not covered by revenue streams for potential donor, corporate, volunteer, or foundation support.

Responsibilities Of The Chief Financial Officer

  • Oversee the Controller and financial practices and payroll policies and functions.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets, and actual expenditures.
  • Delegate responsibility across the team to provide all necessary information to auditors.
  • Implement systems to analyze financial data and present financial reports.
  • Lead the annual budgeting, planning, and forecasting process.
  • Present financial data and package at Board meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with grants accounting.
  • Manage cash flow, assess the financial efficacy, and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Manage and track the performance of invested assets.
  • Create and develop the billing department and oversee the insurance contracting, credentialing, billing, and collections processes.
  • Oversee implementation of system improvements.
  • Drive all real estate transactions, working in close collaboration with the CEO, brokers, lawyers, and board of directors.
  • Maintain accurate contracts for all programs and cross-check program leadership documents related to contracted services.
  • Oversee the prioritization of supplier diversity program and vendor vetting and performance.
  • Organize and streamline a cost-efficient records management system.
  • Strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization by creating and promoting a positive and supportive work environment.

Required Experience/Skills For The Chief Financial Officer

  • 5+ years of experience in financial leadership in non-profit management.
  • Uniform Financial Reporting.
  • Oversight of IT and maintenance/facilities/real estate transactions.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software and experience selecting and overseeing software installations.
  • Expertise in all accounting functions - accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, accounting for investments, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with third-party billing.
  • Success with contract/grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of government, corporate, and foundation grants.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • CMA, CPA, and/or MBA are preferred.
