Chief Financial Officer
Non-Profit Organization | CPA Required | Insurance Industry | Hybrid - Raleigh, NC

We are working on an exciting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) opportunity with a respected nonprofit organization. This executive-level role is ideal for a strategic and hands-on financial leader who thrives in a mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finance Leadership:
  • Develop, implement, and monitor fiscal controls and management procedures.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and annual budgets.
  • Manage audit processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAGAS).
  • Oversee investment policies and present financial information to governance boards.
  • Identify cost-saving and efficiency-improving technological solutions.
  • Operational & Strategic Oversight:
  • Improve service levels for internal staff, external parties, and League members.
  • Supervise and develop finance staff, setting performance objectives and training employees.
  • Oversee cash and investment management, payroll functions, and financial reporting.
  • Work with investment advisors and leadership on fund performance and policy recommendations.
  • Lead budgeting processes and present proposed budgets for board approval.
  • Governance & Board Engagement:
  • Prepare financial presentations for the Board of Directors and RMS Board of Trustees.
  • Respond to board requests for financial clarification and oversee finance committees.
  • Human Resources Management:
  • Assess HR needs and support the HR Manager in strategy and operations.
  • Develop HR policies and procedures in collaboration with the HR Manager.

Qualifications:

  • CPA Required
  • Bachelors degree-level of study from an accredited institution, preferably in accounting or finance
  • 10+ years of experience in a financial leadership role, extensive experience as an executive or leadership position managing all aspects of accounting and finance and reporting to a Board
  • Previous CFO experience is highly preferred
  • Experience in a non-profit, government or insurance industry
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • Candidates must reside in NC and be willing to go onsite in Raleigh 2-3 times a week. This is not a remote position and relocation assistance will not be offered.
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
