The QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute seeks a collegiate and inspiring executive to take a leading role in supporting the Institute in the achievement of its vision, mission, goals and objectives through ensuring the operational robustness, strategic development and delivery of high-integrity finance and procurement services.


Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and with three direct reports, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide contemporary and visionary leadership to the Finance and Procurement department at QIMR, which comprises the teams and key functions of Finance Operations, Reporting and Analysis and Procurement. As a key strategic partner to the COO, the CFO will play a critical role in ensuring the financial compliance, performance and sustainability of the organisation, leading corporate functional activities in support of, and as a key driver of, QIMR Berghofer’s strategy and mission.


The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in a senior financial management role, with broad functional experience and deep commercial acumen. A thought leader with a strategic financial lens, the CFO will be proficient in commercial and financial principles and requirements, with a strong understanding of compliance and risk management. Strengths in communication, influencing and negotiation will be required to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and to lead and motivate the finance team. Bringing outstanding problem-solving skills, the CFO will have high ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining integrity and transparency across functional operations. Whilst all sector backgrounds will be considered, the CFO will need to demonstrate the ability to lead a dynamic team focussed on driving a positive impact on society through supporting the activities of high-impact medical research.
