Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – New Space Sector

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid)

About the Company:

Founded in 2018, our client client company operates in the emerging New Space sector, transitioning from IT consulting for government space programs to developing cutting-edge commercial space solutions. Our client expertise lies in power systems and communications, and we offer a one-stop-shop approach to spacecraft development. Recent M&A activity, including the acquisition of Invocon, has strengthened our client client position in the industry. With a strong government and commercial client base, we are preparing for our client client next growth phase through strategic fundraising and expansion efforts.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to drive financial growth, manage investor relations, and lead capital-raising efforts as we scale. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in government contracting, M&A, and high-capital-expenditure (CapEx) industries such as aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring financial operational expertise while maintaining a strategic outlook to position the company for long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Capital Raising & Investor Relations

  • Lead and structure new investment rounds, engaging venture capital, private equity, and institutional investors (e.g., Fidelity, GKN PE, family offices).
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies aligned with company growth and expansion goals.
  • Provide clear financial reporting and milestone tracking to ensure investor confidence.
  • Educate investors on government contracting structures and financial intricacies.

2. Mergers & Acquisitions

  • Drive M&A strategy, identifying and evaluating acquisition targets to strengthen core capabilities.
  • Lead due diligence, integration, and financial structuring for acquisitions, including the recent acquisition of Invocon.
  • Ensure smooth post-acquisition integration and value realization.

3. Financial Strategy & Operations

  • Establish and optimize robust financial systems, data rooms, and due diligence processes.
  • Oversee financial planning, reporting, and compliance to align with government contracting frameworks.
  • Manage financial risks, cash flow, and operational expenses, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Work closely with the COO and technical teams to analyze Bill of Materials (BOM) and manufacturing costs.

4. Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with the executive team, finance, legal, and operations to drive strategic decisions.
  • Lead hiring efforts for finance and strategy teams to support company growth.
  • Foster a culture of financial discipline, execution, and innovation in a rapidly evolving environment.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential Experience:

  • Government Sales & Contracting: Strong understanding of DoD, NASA, DARPA, and three-letter agency contracts.
  • Capital Raising & Investor Relations: Proven track record of securing funding from venture capital, private equity, and institutional investors.
  • Startup or Private Equity Experience: Experience leading finance teams in growth-stage companies.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions: Expertise in deal structuring, due diligence, and post-merger integration.
  • High CapEx & Manufacturing Financial Expertise: Background in aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing finance.

Preferred Experience:

  • Space industry or government contracting familiarity.
  • Public markets exposure (IPO, SPAC experience is a plus).
  • International finance expertise, including regulatory compliance and foreign investments.
  • Experience structuring strategic partnerships with aerospace primes (SpaceX, Boeing, Blue Origin, etc.).

Company Culture & Work Environment:

  • Innovative & Execution-Driven: Moving away from large prime contractor culture to foster agility.
  • Collaborative & Cross-Functional: Engineers, finance, and strategy teams work closely together.
  • Hybrid Work Model: Flexible arrangements available; headquarters relocating to Denver, CO.
  • Growing Team: Currently 26 employees, with plans to expand finance and strategy teams.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary & equity package, aligned with high-growth space startups.
  • Hybrid work options with a base location in Denver, CO.
  • Opportunity to shape the financial future of a fast-growing space technology company.

Next Steps:

We are seeking candidates with a strong financial leadership background in venture-backed, dual-use (commercial & government) companies with valuations up to $500M. The selection process includes:

  1. Initial screening interviews.
  2. Executive leadership discussions.
  3. Investor engagement and final decision-making.
