Job Summary
The CFO is responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk management and development, building and maintaining professional relationships, business compliance, and managing and running the financial department for multiple enterprises. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal oversight regulations related to gaming and understanding the distinctions between various business structures.
Overall Responsibilities
- Ensuring regulatory compliance with applicable Federal, State, Tribal laws and regulations, including BSA/Title 31, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls, and policies and procedures.
- Thorough understanding of the financial position and issuing periodic reports on financial stability, liquidity, and growth.
- Analyzing and directing all cost accounting procedures, budgeting, audit functions, tax liabilities, accounting, purchasing, long-range forecasting, and insurance activities.
- Providing leadership, direction, and management of the finance and accounting team.
- Advising on long-term business goals, investments, and financial planning.
- Directing the Controller in developing, submitting for review, and administering policies, procedures, and acquiring software/equipment for adequate accounting controls and services.
- Developing and maintaining positive relations with senior management, external partners, and stakeholders.
- Overseeing and directing the preparation and issuance of annual financial reports.
- Directing studies of general economic, business, and financial conditions and their impact on organizational policies and operations.
- Establishing and maintaining contacts with Federal and State organizations, financial institutions, and the investment community.
- Encouraging teamwork, planning, communication, responsibility, and accountability in management.
- Additional duties within the CFO scope may be assigned by the CEO or Board of Directors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field; ten years of demonstrated successful experience in a progressively responsible operations management position; tribal management or corporate experience; and at least five years in an executive senior leadership capacity managing directors and diverse teams; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional years of equivalent experience may be substituted for the required degree.
- Familiarity with businesses under federal charter, including those structured under Section 17 of the Indian Reorganization Act (IRA).
- Demonstrated successful experience in economic development, including knowledge of funding resources, professional organizations, contracting, and proven business development strategies.
- Proven success working with a board of directors.
- Must comply with gaming regulations and obtain a gaming license.
- Preferred experience in operating fuel businesses.
- Preferred experience in operating casinos and gaming businesses.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, capable of identifying and communicating ideas to grow and accelerate new and existing businesses, in collaboration with the CEO.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills demonstrated through past work experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, financial records, and legal documents.
