Spero is non-profit behavioral health and substance disorder clinic seeking an experienced and strategic CFO to join our team. The Chief Financial Officer plays a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy and direction of our organization. This position is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing financial risks. The CFO is vital in supporting our mission to provide high-quality behavioral health services while maintaining financial health and stability. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Financial Officer works in conjunction with the CEO, and other management and program leads ensuring processes and procedures are following GAAP and State and Federal guidelines, all while minimizing risk and exposure and maximizing return.
The Chief Financial Officer guides the general accounting processes including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Financial Reporting. The Chief Financial Officer is primarily responsible for annual cost reporting to the state, annual budgeting, annual audits, and monthly financial reporting and analysis, in addition to grant management and reporting.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a healthcare environment. This position is an in-office position, and a hybrid work schedule may be considered after establishment with the team and the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Position oversees a department of five individuals: Accountant; Accounts Payable/Payroll; Insurance Billing Supervisor; Accounts Receivable; Accounting Assistant
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Oversee the financial strategic planning of the organization by evaluating its performance and potential risks. Direct the timely reporting and analysis of the company’s monthly/annual financial performance.
• Report on the financial condition of the company to the Board of Directors monthly.
• Coordinate and complete the annual budgeting process.
• Develop, lead, and manage the business office team and the functions of internal/external reporting, general ledger, payables, receivables, and payroll.
• Establish, maintain, review, and enforce company’s internal control policies.
• Manage the annual financial audit through direct coordination with an outside accounting firm.
• Maintain company’s banking and investment relationships and coordinate movement of funds for best profitability.
• Oversee the company’s billing functions through the Carelogic billing system.
• Direct all company tax /regulatory compliance and reporting requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience in healthcare financial management; behavioral health experience preferred
• CPA and or MBA
• Seven plus years of progressive responsibility and leadership in accounting and finance, holding the position of Director or equivalent.
• Previous not-for-profit experience.
• Advanced development in organizational leadership.
Education and Experience:
• Four-year degree in accounting/finance or equivalent.
• Exceptional financial systems knowledge and skills, and skilled in optimizing systems that result in operational efficiencies.
• Hands-on experience with management responsibilities for the daily accounting functions including monthly financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, external audit, AP/AR, general ledger, payroll, and financial analysis.
• Experience in the management of the revenue cycle, with emphasis on medical billing and government contracts.
• Experienced in cash management with a proven record in building a strong cash position.
Experienced in leading compliance with state and federal laws, third-party payer regulations and other regulatory bodies.
