Chief Financial Officer - SME Growth Enterprise

The Company

Robert Half Executive Search (RH ES) has been exclusively engaged by a reputable, growing Australian-owned Engineering Technology group to appoint a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in Melbourne. With a national growth agenda, including potential M&A, the group seeks a hands-on, well-rounded CFO to partner with the CEO and Board in driving expansion.

For over 30 years, the company has been a leader in industrial automation, enhancing operational excellence across FMCG, Manufacturing, Mining, and Utilities, while supporting community liveability and sustainability.

With a strong focus on innovation, relationships, trust, and care for safety and the environment, the leadership team is eager to welcome a CFO as a key financial and commercial advisor.

The Role

Reporting to the CEO, you will be a trusted advisor and key member of a tight-knit leadership team, driving sustainable growth and continuous improvement across the group.

Your broad remit includes supporting acquisitive growth through due diligence and integration, strengthening forecasting and cash flow management, and working with project teams to embed process improvements and commercial discipline.

You will oversee financial control, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and advisory relationships, while also advancing the enterprise’s systems and technology.

Key focus areas:

1. Financial & Business Strategy: Shape and execute financial strategies aligned with business goals.
2. Debt & Capital Management: Manage capital structure to support growth.
3. Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead planning and ensure robust cash flow management.
4. Mergers & Acquisitions: Drive M&A activity, from due diligence to integration.
5. ERP Management: Optimise ERP systems for better reporting and efficiency.
6. Business Analysis: Deliver insights to support strategic initiatives and improvements.
7. Risk & Cash Flow Management: Proactively manage risks and working capital.
8. Team Leadership: Lead and develop the finance team, fostering excellence and collaboration.

Your Profile

CA/CPA qualified, you are an accomplished finance leader with experience as a trusted advisor, ideally in SME environments.

A collaborative and relatable leader, you have a proven track record in broad, hands-on roles, preferably within growing SMEs. You are an exceptional communicator and inspiring leader, capable of uniting teams around shared goals. Decisive and solutions-focused, you remain organised and resilient under pressure, supporting your team through tight deadlines with a proactive, can-do mindset.

Ideally, you bring experience from project-based industries such as Engineering, Construction, Infrastructure, Mining, or Manufacturing, with a history of success in engineering or related sectors. Analytical and engaging, you communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders, bringing positivity and enthusiasm to every interaction.
