Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Construction Industry

Location: Wilmington, DE

Job Summary:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the company’s financial functions. This executive role includes oversight of accounting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, compliance, and risk management. The CFO will be a key member of the leadership team, driving financial strategy and performance to support the company’s continued growth in the construction industry. Experience with mergers and acquisitions (M&A)—including consolidations, post-acquisition integration, and due diligence—is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of accounting and finance, including general ledger, job costing, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting.
Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and industry regulations.
Lead the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Direct the budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes.
Monitor job costs, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and variance analysis to optimize profitability and financial performance.
Partner with project managers and executive leadership to provide data-driven insights and financial guidance.
Ensure adherence to tax regulations, manage audits, and maintain all required financial compliance documentation.
Evaluate, select, and implement financial systems and ERP software to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
Lead, develop, and mentor the finance and accounting team to ensure operational excellence and a high-performance culture.
Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard the company’s assets and financial health.
Support M&A activities including financial due diligence, integration planning and execution, and financial consolidations to ensure seamless transitions and alignment with corporate strategy.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
7+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including at least 3 years in a construction or real estate development company.
Deep understanding of construction accounting, including job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
Experience with ERP systems such as Foundation, Timberline (Sage 300), or Sage Intacct is highly preferred.
Proficiency in financial software including Sage, Viewpoint, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
Strong leadership, communication, and strategic thinking capabilities.
Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and managing multiple priorities.
Experience in M&A, including financial due diligence, consolidation processes, and post-acquisition integration, is highly preferred.
