Summary
The Communications Specialist will be the day-to-day communications strategist for Michigan Medicine’s Nursing community to support the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) and other key nursing leaders and ensure alignment with the broader communication strategies from the Department of Communication. They will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communications plans and messaging within the nursing community to optimize engagement and leadership transparency. Areas of focus include:
- Leadership messaging and communication
- Promoting nursing image and professional practice
- Nursing recognition and awards
This position will be responsible for continually seeking feedback from leadership and staff to ensure strategies and messaging are compelling, relevant, and timely. Individual must be adept at utilizing multiple channels to ensure communications are effective. Innovative thinking on best-in-class communication solutions is a requirement.

Responsibilities*
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide strategic counsel to the CNE and leaders in Nursing on the most effective and compelling communication approaches to support department priorities and initiatives.
- Develop and execute a communication plan, with detailed strategy / tactics and measurable outcomes for the Office of the CNE.
- Develop, track and monitor data driven communication goals and metrics that are strategic, measurable, timely and realistic.
- Partner with the creative services team to utilize video, blogs, podcasts, digital signage, web content and social media to innovate and engage all nursing staff and the broader Michigan Medicine community.
- Use communication to collaborate with other key stakeholders to positively impact engagement, culture, and organizational effectiveness.
- Translate technical or strategic topics into easily consumed, appropriate communication tailored to various internal audiences.
- Position and reinforce Nursing at Michigan as an employer of choice through select, intentional content reflecting our workplace, work environment and working relationships with colleagues.
- Partner with communication specialists across Michigan Medicine’s segments, the Department of Nursing webmaster, and other members of the Department of Communication and other key stakeholders as appropriate on individual projects or initiatives.Self-Development/Education

Required Qualifications*
- Minimum of an undergraduate degree in nursing or communication-related field, such as journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or other relevant healthcare related field.
- Three to five years of professional experience in nursing, public relations, promotion, marketing, or communication in a professional setting.
- Proven experience generating client satisfaction and developing solutions in complex matrixed organizations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with solid understanding of digital media.
- Experience maintaining electronic communication vehicles, websites, blogs, social media.
- Ability to work well with others and willingness to accept feedback.
- Flexibility in work schedule: some on site requirements for rounding and awards, for example, and some remote work. Willingness to invest time, in person, to develop rapport with the CNE and team to understand and capture the voice of nursing.
Desired Qualifications*
- Direct experience in a healthcare and/or academic medical center.

Background Screening
