The Role
As CFO, you will play a key role in the strategic and operational leadership of the organisation, guiding financial decisions and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the institution.
You will:
- Provide clear financial advice and strategic insight to the Principal, senior leaders, and Governing Board
- Lead all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, ensuring full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Develop and manage a high-performing Finance Team, embedding strong internal controls and financial policies
- Oversee major income streams — including government funding, service fees, and boarding income — ensuring sound financial management and effective billing processes
- Drive value for money across procurement and wider financial commitments
- Proactively identify and pursue additional income opportunities such as grants, partnerships, and charitable funding
- Act as Company Secretary, ensuring compliance with Companies House, Charity Commission, and DfE regulations
About You
We are looking for a confident, values-driven leader with a passion for financial excellence and a commitment to education. You will bring:
- A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Significant senior financial management experience — ideally within education, charity, or other regulated sectors
- A track record of providing financial insight at Board or Trustee level
- In-depth knowledge of statutory reporting, charity or not-for-profit accounting, and relevant regulatory frameworks
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to present financial information clearly to a wide range of audiences
- Experience managing complex income streams, with robust financial controls in place
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the integrity to lead by example
