This is a system executive level position that is responsible to lead all revenue cycle functions of the system including patient access, financial clearance, revenue integrity, HIM and coding, and central business offices. This position oversees these functions across acute and professional revenue cycle operations.
Education
- Bachelor's degree In finance, accounting, or a related business field Required or
- Master's degree In business administration, health administration, or information management Preferred
Experience
- Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible revenue cycle management and operations experience, including at least five (5) years of senior level leadership experience within a complex healthcare environment. Required and
- Requires in-depth knowledge of the entire hospital and physician revenue cycle, including scheduling registration, financial clearance and health information management and patient financial services. Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Demonstrated excellence in the design and implementation of progressive and successful revenue cycle performance models.
- Demonstrated change management leadership and managerial skills.
- Understanding of Federal compliance and OIG initiatives that impact the healthcare industry.
- Knowledge of healthcare accounts receivable management concepts, including an in-depth knowledge of reimbursement and the regulatory environment to ensure compliance with State regulations regarding patient and insurance billing issues.
- Knowledge of six sigma and LEAN principles and techniques
- Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
- Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
- Maintains strong understanding of revenue cycle performance and metrics and leads the team in achieving industry leading practices. Provides world class service to MedStar Health customers that continually exceeds their expectations.
- Develop long-term and short-term strategic plans to replace existing billing systems and develop an integrated revenue cycle system that supports customer-focused, effective and efficient revenue cycle operations.
- Lead the development of strategies and solutions that take full advantage of new technologies. Perform technology and vendor assessments, create ROI analyses and lead implementation.
- Direct and supervise individuals leading revenue cycle functions across acute and physician services.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with operational, clinical, financial and technology leaders.
- Retain and recruit a high performance and talented staff. Foster a high-performance teaming culture that enables leaders and employees to collaborate and drive innovation and performance improvement.
- Achieve revenue cycle performance measures including cash collection targets, efficiency measures and customer satisfaction goals.
- Investigate and resolve complex problems and coordinate efforts to provide strategies and solutions supporting MedStar's business strategy and vision.
- Demonstrate solid understanding of key revenue cycle functions including but not limited to scheduling, financial clearance, pre-registration, financial counseling, charge capture, HIM, coding, CDI, billing, follow-up, denial management, revenue recognition, payment variance management, vendor performance tracking and bad debt.
- Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
