About the Company
A rapidly growing, private equity–backed construction and utility services provider generating approximately $35M in revenue with 115 employees is seeking a transformative Chief Financial Officer. With multiple acquisitions targeted over the next 12 months, the organization is entering a period of accelerated expansion.
This is a high-visibility leadership opportunity reporting directly to the President.
Role Overview
The CFO will lead all financial operations, build scalable infrastructure, and partner closely with executive leadership and the private equity sponsor to support rapid growth. The role oversees accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, risk, IT, HR, and M&A activities.
The current finance team consists of two administrative staff. The CFO will hire a Controller and continue building a high-performing finance organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a scalable finance infrastructure to support organic and acquisitive growth
- Strengthen project accounting: job costing, WIP, revenue recognition
- Drive working capital optimization, operational efficiency, and cash flow management
- Partner with the PE sponsor to lead M&A due diligence, valuation, and integration
- Prepare and present financial results to the Board, lenders, and investors
- Lead ERP implementation and financial system upgrades across multiple locations
- Ensure accurate GAAP/IFRS reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
- Oversee insurance, bonding, audit, banking, and treasury functions
- Manage HR strategy for a 100+ person workforce, including organizational scaling
- Support pricing strategy, project controls, cost structure analysis, and bid modeling
- Develop and mentor finance, accounting, and administrative personnel
Candidate Profile
Required Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership
- Prior experience in construction, industrial services, or utility-related sectors
- Strong project accounting foundation (WIP, job costing, revenue recognition)
- Proven success in PE-backed environments with leveraged capital structures
- Direct experience with M&A (due diligence, modeling, integration)
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to execute while building strategy
- Background managing multi-location operations and ERP transitions
Preferred:
- CPA, MBA, public accounting experience
- Executive presence with board-facing communication skills
- Track record building and developing finance teams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven, operational environment
- VP, SVP, or Director-level candidates ready to step into a CFO seat will be considered
