Manager, Strategic R&D Business Operations

We are supporting a leading global biopharmaceutical organization dedicated to developing transformative therapies for patients with serious and rare genetic conditions. The organisation is seeking an experienced and highly capable Manager, Strategic R&D Business Operations to join its global Research & Development Operations function.
This position plays a critical role within the Strategic R&D Business Operations group, serving as a Business Programs Site Manager (BPSM) for assigned clinical programs. The successful individual will be responsible for providing operational leadership across the full lifecycle of clinical site budgets and contracts, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and timely execution in support of global clinical trial delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the execution of global site budget and contracting strategies for assigned programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for site budgets and Clinical Trial Agreement (CTA) management.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of site contracts, including drafting, negotiation, amendments, and execution.
- Develop clinical trial budget assumptions, financial drivers, and deliver accurate budget analyses.
- Create site and country budget templates derived from protocol schedules of assessments, ensuring alignment with fair market value and internal parameters.
- Collaborate with Global Study Operations to ensure contracting and budget activities align with overall clinical trial strategy.
- Engage proactively with sites, CROs, and vendors to facilitate timely budget negotiations and approvals.
- Maintain oversight of CRO/vendor performance related to contracting activities.
- Ensure contract version control, documentation accuracy, and compliance with internal systems.
- Support site payment reconciliation throughout study maintenance and close-out.
- Monitor global regulatory and country-specific requirements related to site budgets, payments, stipends, and contract processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, health sciences, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred (experience may substitute for education).
- 8+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or CRO industry.
- 5+ years of direct experience in clinical site contracting and/or clinical budgets within Clinical Operations or Business Operations.
- Strong understanding of U.S. and Rest-of-World site contracting practices.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage end-to-end site contracting processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple timelines and deliverables.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with attention to detail and adherence to ethical standards.
- Demonstrated resilience in dynamic environments and ability to propose solutions to complex challenges.
