📐 About This Role
We are looking for our first-ever deal desk manager to help us evolve our deal desk process, pricing strategy, and configure our existing CPQ tool. This role requires creativity that continually strives for a win-win-win scenario across all of our stakeholders, across every deal — customer, Writer, and sales rep. Our ideal candidate operates in the trenches with our sellers, working collaboratively side-by-side, instead of transactionally, at arms-length.
We’re also looking for a systems and process-oriented individual who can help us build a repeatable process for expansion, growth, and repeatability. We have big growth ambitions and you’ll have unequivocally played a major role in making that a reality.

You’ll work with a manager who also “shovels dirt” and rolls up their sleeves to get work done.
For someone self-motivated and with a problem-solving mindset, you’ll find a greenfield opportunity. You’ll rapidly scale out a deal desk function that supports deal structures with the Fortune 500 and Global 2000 across products, teams, and regions. There'll be opportunities to build horizontally through cross-functional initiatives as well as vertically as you become a trusted advisor across revenue leadership.
Tech stack
We rely heavily on Salesforce as our source of truth. We do most of our product/subscription management via Salesforce (custom object) and need our CPQ to work elegantly with this configuration, if possible.
We use RevOps.io as our CPQ and would like to continue to use it. However, we’re open to other alternatives based on your expertise and business value justification.
In 2024, we plan on implementing a contract management system and will also need your help designing it to work elegantly for our legal and sales teams.

🦸🏻♀️ Your Responsibilities
- Build and lead the deal desk function at Writer
- Build the framework for approval matrixes and process, deal structures, and discounting in partnership with finance, sales, and legal leadership.
- Ensure sales negotiation strategies are aligned to our frameworks and guidelines and are incorporated into our sales processes in partnership with sales enablement.
- Enable and train the sales organization on deal desk standard procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Work with our Head of Expansion and VP of Customer Success to build a renewal and expansion playbook that allows us to maximize renewals, uplift, and expansion/cross-sell.
- Work with our Head of International to build region-specific pricing strategies and processes.
- Proactively provide analysis and reports that drive decision-making.
- Drive the design and implementation of our CPQ. help inform and drive our CPQ tool strategy as the needs of our business evolves
- Innovate on deal desk team structures — leveraging technology, contractors, and streamlined processes to build an efficient deal desk function that’s able to support higher than average deal desk to seller ratios and transaction volumes
- % of deals that are standard deals (discounts, terms)
- Speed and quality
- 6+ years of experience working in operations, deal desk, or contract management.
- Experience with SaaS contracts, quotes, and order forms is a must
- Experience working with and administering a CPQ
- Experience working with sellers on complex deal structures
- Ability to drive alignment across numerous stakeholders
- Thrives in ambiguity and can create paved roads from dirt paths
- Open to honest (and kind) feedback; tough skin
- Self-aware and committed to learning the why for both successes and failures
- Proactive communication skills, both sync and async
- Intrinsically motivated: you set the highest possible bar for what you build and ship
- Experience managing and building relationships across multiple departments and stakeholder levels
- Incredibly curious and an active listener
