We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial, risk management, and procurement functions of our vegetation management company. This role is critical in ensuring financial health, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all areas of the business, including field operations, equipment procurement, and internal operations.

The CFO will be a key member of the executive team, responsible for driving financial strategy, managing enterprise risks, and overseeing procurement processes that support vegetation control services, utility partnerships, and vendor relations.

This position is onsite in our Sacramento, CA Office.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership

Direct all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting activities.
Develop financial strategies to support growth in vegetation management services, including utility contracts, ROW clearing, and environmental compliance.
Oversee accounting, payroll, and financial systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Manage capital expenditures, fleet financing, and investment planning for equipment and technology.

Risk Management

Identify and mitigate financial, operational, legal and safety risks.
Implement and maintain risk management frameworks tailored to field operations and regulatory requirements.
Lead internal audits and ensure compliance with business operations and government regulations.
Collaborate with legal and operations teams to manage insurance, liability, and contract risks.

Procurement Oversight

Lead procurement strategy for equipment, tooling, safety gear, and subcontractor services.
Establish vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to ensure cost-effective and timely supply chain operations.
Monitor market trends and supply chain disruptions affecting vegetation management materials and services.

Leadership & Collaboration

Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board of Directors.
Lead and mentor finance, risk, and procurement teams.
Collaborate with operations, safety, and field management teams to align financial and procurement strategies with service delivery.
Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
10+ years of financial leadership experience, ideally in field services, environmental management, or utility contracting.
Proven experience managing risk and procurement in a mid-sized company (200–500 employees).
Strong understanding of contractor operations, equipment lifecycle, and regulatory compliance.
Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with ERP systems and financial modeling tools.
Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards.
Familiarity with fleet management and field service contracts.
Strong negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
