CPNYC is the first and only after-school program and summer day camp in NYC specifically designed to meet the needs, interests, and concerns of children left behind by a parent serving time in prison. Since its inception, we have provided services to over 1,500 children and their families, including approximately 300 young people each year. The organization has developed broad collaborative relationships and community partnerships, raised over $5M dollars in government and philanthropic funding, and established its own innovative and holistic model to support children of incarcerated parents in leading healthy and productive lives.

CPNYC serves Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) ages 6 - 18 who are facing the adverse childhood experience of parental incarceration. With strategic geographic locations in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn and the South Bronx, we provide an integrative approach to mental health and out-of-school time services when and where it is needed the most. Currently, 100% of the children and families we serve are BIPOC and the vast majority are living at or below the poverty line.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the President & CEO, the part-time Chief Financial Officer will define the process and implement the infrastructure/systems needed to support substantial growth over the next five to ten years. She or he will continue to build and manage effective and streamlined administrative/financial systems, including financial, accounting, legal, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and physical infrastructure.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

Financial Management & Administrative Management

· Review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for CPNYC’s board of directors.

· Oversee the creation and monitoring of CPNYC’s annual budget, including monitoring progress and presenting operational metrics both internally and externally.

· Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.

· Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for funding organizations and CPNYC’s board of directors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.

· Manage and support the professional growth of one full-time Finance Director, including support and oversight related to their responsibilities related to audit activities.

· Hire and retain support staff as needed in the future.

· Ensure that finance staff maintain financial record systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and monitor the use of all funds.

· Interface with the President & CEO, Finance Director, and Program Directors to facilitate cross-department collaboration that ensures all financial, IT, and HR solutions positively support CPNYC’s evolving strategy, operational delivery, and data collection needs.

· Review all formal finance-, HR-, and IT-related procedures, processes, and administration, recommending improvements to the systems in place and managing the systems going forward.

· Manage updates to CPNYC’s existing fiscal manual.

Strategy

· Partner with the president on all operational and strategic issues as they arise; provide strategic recommendations to the president based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.

· Engage the Director of Development to align financial management with short- and long-term financial planning and projections.

· Engage the board finance committee around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery.

Supervision Received:

· This role reports to Children of Promise NYC’s President & CEO

Supervision Exercised:

· Manage and support the professional growth of one full-time Finance Director

· Hire and retain support staff as needed in the future.

Qualifications & Skills:

· 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit financial management with an organization that has a diversity of different funding sources (e.g. government grants and contracts, foundation and corporate grants)

· Bachelor’s degree (MA/MBA preferred) in Business, Nonprofit Management, and/or Finance

· Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting, ideally in the nonprofit sector
