CFO POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports directly to the General Manager/CEO. The position is a department head, senior management position within the Club organization and works closely with all Club department heads to ensure the successful operation of the Club. This individual will help develop and achieve the operational goals of the Club and support the cultural identity of the Club, particularly as it relates to finance, budgeting, employee benefits, and operational controls. This position will work in concert with and support the defined objectives of the role and deliver upon the expectations of the Audit and Finance Committee and Board of Directors, including all aspects of financial analysis and related activities, operations, reporting, and financial controls. The position is one of high interaction with all department leaders, requiring a strong personal and professional presence. Effective communication skills are critical, along with the ability to be clear, concise, positive, energized, and passionate about the financial position of the Club, and ways to improve the operation through supporting departments with timely, accurate, and useful financial information. Development and mentorship of staff supporting professional development of the team is imperative. An appropriate balance representing the Club in an ambassadorship role outside the Club with appropriate professional organizations is expected.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The CFO will manage the general financial affairs of the Club, direct the overall financial policies, and manage all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, cash management, insurance, credit, and taxes. Also, manages and supervises accounting personnel.

Interaction

Position requires frequent interaction with Board Members, Club Members, Vendors, and Financial Institutions.

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies, and Expectations

Directs all accounting and financial operations; responsible for the Club’s accounting system and internal control procedures.

Develops and implements accounting policies, procedures, and financial reporting standards in compliance with best practices.

Oversees the hiring, training, supervision, and, when necessary, termination of accounting staff.

Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting for Club operations, including monthly general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis.

Analyzes financial records to ensure adequate internal controls and regulatory compliance.

Collaborates with the GM/CEO to monitor financial performance and manage operational costs in alignment with the approved budget.

Leads the preparation and revision of annual operating and capital budgets in coordination with Department Heads, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors.

Prepares financial projections and analysis as requested by the GM/CEO, Board of Directors, or Club Committees.

Presents financial reports, analysis, and recommendations to the GM/CEO, Board of Directors, and relevant Committees.

Oversees the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings.

Reviews and signs checks drawn on operating, payroll, and ROM pool accounts.

Manages member communications regarding delinquent accounts.

Ensures the Club maintains appropriate levels of property, casualty, liability, and other insurance coverage.

Prepares insurance specifications and revenue/payroll projections for competitive bidding; coordinates and reviews results of annual insurance audits.

Assists with the administration of group insurance plans (medical, dental, disability, life); monitors cost-effectiveness and solicits competitive bids as needed.

Coordinates the annual external audit, including audit schedule preparation, procedural coordination, and management letter responses.

Manages financial relationships with banking institutions, including cash management and investment of excess funds as approved by the Finance Committee.

Projects cash balances and flows to ensure optimal timing of expenditures and maximization of Club funds.

Oversees bi-weekly payroll and monthly commission processes.

Meets regularly with the GM/CEO regarding administrative and financial matters.

Performs other duties as assigned by the GM/CEO, Board of Directors, or Finance Committee.

Educational and Certification Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

CPA license preferred

Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
