Satsuma Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing STS101 (dihydroergotamine (DHE) nasal powder), a novel investigational therapeutic product candidate for the acute treatment of migraine. Purpose:Â

The Vice President, Commercial Operations will interact frequently with the leaders of Marketing, Sales, Access and Distribution and Medical Affairs to ensure key objectives are being met. This role is responsible for building and leading a high-performing commercial operations organization to support the Companyâs first US launch. This leader will build and direct the business analytics, sales operations and sales training functions within Satsumaâs commercial organization while collaborating across departments in a time of high growth for the organization.Â This position will report to the Chief Commercial Officer and have a substantial role in ensuring essential commercial capabilities are in place to actively monitor and manage performance of Satsumaâs products, commercial strategy, and plans.

Key Responsibilities:

Â Serve as a member of the Commercial Leadership Team and contribute to the development and execution of the commercial, operational, and organizational strategies and plans
Build a diverse and high performing team of inspired employees in the commercial operations function; integrate the cross-functional efforts of people and teams so that they work as collaborative partners with their peers in the home office and the field
Build, activate, and optimize commercial capabilities to support excellence in planning and execution of sales, marketing, market access, patient support and other functions as required.Â
Lead business planning, forecasting, and performance monitoring, reporting and management capabilities that enable leadership to effectively manage the business and achieve its goals and objectives
Partner with marketing leadership to build best in class digital and omni-channel marketing capabilities that leverage data and insights to inform, optimize and modernize the promotional mix with a high ROI
Partner with sales leadership to ensure that the sales functions have the key enabling capabilities in place to achieve business performance objectives including, CRM/Dashboard, Reporting, Forecasting, Call Planning, and Incentive CompensationÂ
Develop a world class sales training and employee development function to ensure a strong and compliant commercial launch and support the ongoing growth and development of Satsuma
Partner with market access to ensure that key systems, data, and training are in place to effectively and compliantly enable payer and patient support operations
Define and manage the annual brand strategy and tactical planning process; define the planning calendar and overall process, develop and train on the supportive tools and templates; ensure that teams have the insights and data needed to inform decisions
Design and resource the overall commercial operations model and supportive resources and capabilities so that they are resilient, flexible, and sustainable
Effectively manage external vendors and partnerships to ensure high quality and timely service delivery and complianceÂ
Partner with technical operations to ensure alignment with demand forecast, inventory, and overall ex-factory shipment expectations.
Inspire and increase motivation and productivity in implementing policies and management practices that attract and retain the best people
Develop and monitor performance against budgets
Establish, oversee implementation, and monitor adherence to administrative policies and procedures
Drive growth strategy as a member of the cross-functional business leadership team
Prepare presentations for executives, board members, etc. to explain the companyâs current and future strategies

Minimum Requirements Education/Experience:Â

Bachelorâs degree in Science, Business or related is required; MBA or Advanced degree is a plus
A minimum of 15 years of business experience in areas such as operations, strategy, marketing or sales
A minimum of 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is required.Â
Significant experience in multiple areas within the commercial operation function and/or in areas where the functions directly support (e.g. marketing leadership, sales leadership, access leadership, data and analytics, etc)
Experience with 3rd party pharmaceutical data (e.g., IMS, Symphony Health), CRM systems (e.g. Veeva, etc..) and basic understanding of claims data and managed care data is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years in leadership roles involving operations
Strong understanding of process improvement and streamlining in addition to experience working in a function that is heavily collaboration
Have strong interpersonal; communication; analytical and project management skills
Ability to translate strategies into measurable tactical programs that have high ROI
Requires leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision and engage people in that vision
Ability to access and influence various functional areas and motivate groups to action without direct line management responsibility
