Overview

The Lighthouse Church and Ministries seeks a strategic and dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to steward the financial health of the church in excellence and integrity. The CFO will oversee financial strategy, budgeting, accounting, reporting, and compliance, while aligning financial operations with the church’s mission to reach, serve, and disciple communities locally and globally. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic partner to church leadership, enabling sustainable ministry growth and resource stewardship.

Responsibilities

Provide financial leadership and oversight for all church operations, ministries, and outreach programs.
Develop and manage annual operating and ministry budgets in collaboration with pastors, ministry leaders, and the Board of Trustees.
Oversee day-to-day finance and accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, tithes & offerings, and reporting.
Prepare and present monthly financial statements and cash flow reports to the Board of Trustees and Senior Leadership.
Ensure compliance with all nonprofit financial regulations, including IRS 501(c)(3) requirements, donor restrictions, and internal controls.
Maintain transparent and accurate records of all financial transactions, donations, grants, and designated funds.
Lead financial audits, tax filings, and church insurance and risk management efforts.
Provide fiscal leadership for capital campaigns, building projects, and other major initiatives.
Implement best practices in nonprofit accounting and stewardship of church resources.
Supervise and develop the finance and accounting team, ensuring excellence in service and accountability.
Support donor communication and reporting, promoting a culture of generosity and trust.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
7–10 years of financial leadership experience,
Demonstrated experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and donor-restricted giving.
High level of integrity, confidentiality, and alignment with the values and mission of The Lighthouse Church and Ministries.
Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, ACS, Shelby, or similar church management systems).
Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lead with a servant’s heart while upholding high professional standards

Preferred:

CPA or MBA
Experience in religious sector, or nonprofit organization.
Knowledge of GAAP and IRS requirements for religious sectors.
Experience working with religious sector and/or nonprofit leadership teams and boards.
Familiarity with religious sector or nonprofit finance models including multiple locations, and digital giving.
