ABOUT FAMILIES in TRANSITION
Families in Transition was established in 1991 as a housing organization for low-income families. Since its humble beginnings with one building, it has expanded to 18 buildings of housing to become one of the largest affordable housing organizations in the state. In 2018, Families in Transition merged with New Horizons for New Hampshire, an organization which has served homeless individuals since 1973. Around this same time, Families in Transition merged with a substance use treatment program, now known as Willows Treatment Center.
Families in Transition is one of the largest homeless services organizations in New Hampshire with locations in Manchester and Concord. It provides innovative and effective interventions specifically designed to help individuals and families break the cycle of homelessness and lead healthy and successful lives. The organization’s belief is that having a home is a basic human right and is fundamental to becoming an engaged and contributing member of the community.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is an exciting and unique opportunity for the next Chief Financial Officer who is responsible for leading and managing the day-to-day finance and accounting operations of the organization to ensure successful financial performance and compliance with the organization’s internal controls. The CFO is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the annual budget, evaluating financial performance, and improving overall financial efficiency.
The CFO will actively participate in strategic planning and implement long-term objectives to help the organization meet its goals. The CFO oversees the Finance and Accounting Department, as well as the Outfitters Thrift Store and Food Pantry. The CFO represents the Finance Department at Audit & Finance Meetings, Senior Leader’s Meetings Board of Director's Meetings, Staff Meetings, and Property Maintenance Meetings.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Financial Officer will have responsibility for financial health and well-being of the organization. They are a member of the senior leadership team and work closely with the Board of Directors on all financial related committees. The CFO is responsible for overseeing the supervision of the finance team, as well as oversight of the Outfitters Thrift Store and Food Pantry services.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Families in Transition seeks a proven, accomplished professional with a minimum of 10 years of finance accounting and leadership experience, along with a passion to serve the most vulnerable community members in New Hampshire. This individual will bring values-based leadership characterized by unwavering integrity, an ability to lead staff, and execute strategic plans that impact the future of the organization.
The candidate must be able to establish strong working relationships with our financial business relationships externally, as well as our funders, staff, and volunteers. Candidates must be collaborative and able to build relationships internally and externally.
Proven personal success in managing a large staff team is a key requirement. Experience working with contracts, affordable housing and/or with HUD and housing authorities will be extremely valuable.
The successful candidate will have well-honed skills in building relationships, financial management, and operations management of a similarly sized organization and will have been a catalyst in fulfilling an agency’s vision. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing large, complex budgets and agreements with municipal, state, and federal agencies.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to build and nurture a positive culture that is grounded in a shared vision, vibrant in teamwork and supported by mutual respect and an unrelenting pursuit of quality is a must. A proven ability to hire, coach, lead and inspire employees as an effective team is a must. High integrity, empathy, self-awareness and sound judgment are essential to success in this role.
The successful candidate will possess a high level of oral, written, mediation, partnership and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with a broad range of individuals and organizations including Board members, professional colleagues, public officials and community partners, etc. This candidate will build bridges of support for the organization; he/she/they will have extensive experience working in a collaborative environment with leaders across sectors to envision and implement a systemic approach to combat poverty and homelessness.
Salary range for this position is $125,000 - $155,000 annually.
Requirements
· Master’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business
· 10+ years’ accounting experience
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel & Word
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· CPA preferred
· Medicaid and Insurance Billing
· Non-profit accounting experience is strongly preferred
