Description
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of our freight brokerage company is responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, planning, and management of the company. This includes optimizing financial performance, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, managing risk, and driving profitability in a fast-paced logistics environment. The CFO plays a key role in strategic decision-making, working closely with executive leadership to support growth and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Planning:
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with business goals and industry trends.
- Provide financial insights to guide strategic decisions on expansion, acquisitions, and investments.
- Oversee capital allocation, cash flow, and working capital management to maintain financial stability.
- Responsible for Managing Legal, Insurance, Claims and Human Resources issues.
- Contract preparation, reviews and executions with a focus on profitability, risks and compliance with terms and conditions.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Supervise financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP or other relevant accounting standards.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to profitability, sales activities, cost efficiency, and revenue growth.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and industry-specific requirements.
- Manage risk exposure related to credit, market, and operational risks.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
- Manage internal controls to specifically prevent and minimize fraud in all areas of the logistics chain including cybersecurity, banking, credit cards and cargo theft.
Operational Efficiency & Cost Control
- Optimize financial processes to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Oversee payment terms, credit management, and collections to maintain healthy cash flow.
- Work with operations and sales teams to evaluate pricing strategies and cost structures.
- Manage property leases and negotiate terms and conditions for 9 offices.
Investor & Stakeholder Relations
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, investors, and external stakeholders.
- Lead financial due diligence for potential mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships.
- Communicate financial performance and strategies to owners.
Technology & Data Analytics
- Leverage financial technology (FinTech) solutions to streamline reporting and automation.
- Utilize data analytics for forecasting, profitability analysis, and decision-making.
- Support the implementation of transportation management systems (TMS) for financial integration.
Requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in financial leadership roles, preferably within freight brokerage, logistics, or transportation.
- Strong knowledge of financial modeling, forecasting, and industry-specific KPIs.
- Experience with banking relationships, capital raising, and financial negotiations.
- Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and TMS platforms.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Written communication skills must be first class due to constant communications with customers, strategic alliances and third parties.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
