Nunavut Arctic College is a vibrant and innovative institution dedicated to providing quality education in Nunavut. The College serves a culturally diverse student population and plays a crucial role in the development and empowerment of Nunavut communities. The Nunavut Arctic College is seeking a proactive, responsive and dynamic individual as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
As the Bursar and CFO, this role is the financial backbone of Nunavut Arctic College, leading all financial operations with precision, integrity, and a strategic mindset. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management, ensuring the college remains financially sound while supporting its mission of educational excellence. The College receives base funding from the Government of Nunavut, and third party funding from various sources, requiring different reporting requirements. In this role, you will work closely with both local and decentralized position, with direct reports in Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology.
The College welcomes applications and letters of interest from individuals with the following qualifications and experience:
- Holds a CPA designation (Certified Professional Accountant)
- A recognized professional accounting designation such as a CPA and professional training in related fields such as management and financial accounting, with five years at the director or senior level.
- Extensive experience is required in the management and development of staff.
- Demonstrated success in collaborative leadership, strategic and operational planning and innovation
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of cultural diversity with strong communication skills.
- Have experience in developing funding proposals.
- Has experience in working in northern contexts, with knowledge of Inuit language, culture, and government policies considered valuable assets.
- Ability to explain financial responsibilities to communities such as NAC Senior Management and the Board of Governors.
This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in English is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
