Qualifications
Required:
-
Four-year college/university degree with a major in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance

Successful experience in a business-related field

Knowledge and experience in computer and technology related services
Preferred:
-
Master of Business Administration, or Master of Finance
-
NC School Finance Officer Certification
-
North Carolina School Finance experience
-
Certified Public Accountant
Job Description and Essential Functions
Includes, but is not limited to:
-
Discharges the duties which are assigned to the school finance officer by the General Statues of NC and by the policies of the Avery County Board of Education

Coordinates and oversees all business/financial operations which includes Finance/Purchasing, Payroll, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Budget, Cash Management, and Fixed Asset Accounting

Complies with the requirements of the Uniform Education Reporting System including the standards and procedures adopted by the State Board of Education for providing timely fiscal information

Maintains accounting records to document compliance with local, state, and federal laws and ordinances

Monitors accounting of individual school funds

Prepares reports for the Avery County Board of Education at the direction of the Superintendent

Directs, coordinates, and gives leadership in the development of the annual budget and implements the approved budget, prepares budget amendments, and oversees all state, federal and local budget allotments.

Administers the school system’s budget and prepares reports of the system’s financial condition

Oversees annual audits with external audit firm

Possesses knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
