Job Summary
As a key member of the leadership team, reporting to the Vice President of Business Operations, the Director of Business Operations oversees the day-to-day business operations, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
The Director is responsible for the daily operations and financial performance of Stitched Ink, Pro Clean Solutions, PWI, and other ventures. This role ensures that all services are person-centered, fostering meaningful employment opportunities for people with IDD while optimizing business operations for efficiency and growth.
This position implements internal systems to maintain fiscal responsibility and operational excellence. In collaboration with the Vice President of Business Operations, the Director identifies opportunities for innovation, process improvement, and business expansion. The Director also promotes customer satisfaction by ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality products and services.
Additionally, the Director ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations, working closely with the Vice President to uphold best practices, address challenges, and drive continuous improvement.
Job Functions
Regulatory and Corporate Compliance
- Work closely with the Vice President of Business Operations to develop and maintain policies, practices, and procedures to support the daily operations of the Business Operations Division, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Maintain program certification and adherence to State and Federal regulations, including NYSID, Department of Labor, OSHA and any other applicable regulatory bodies.
- The Director of Business Operations is responsible for ensuring that associates understand and correctly implement policies and procedures while utilizing appropriate reporting processes for any issues.
- Promote a safe work environment for people supported by the agency and enforce adherence to the agency’s Abuse Prevention & Incident Reporting policies and procedures.
Fiscal Management
- Assist the Vice President of Business Operations in developing and managing the annual budget for all businesses within the division.
- Track financial performance, review variances, and recommend corrective actions to maintain fiscal stability.
- Ensure accurate and timely customer billing, monitor accounts receivable, and take appropriate action to support revenue collection.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for operational improvements.
- Support business growth initiatives by researching and recommending new opportunities that align with the agency’s mission and financial goals.

Program & Service Management
- Assist the Vice President of Business Operations in identifying and developing new business opportunities that enhance quality of life and create integrated employment options for those supported by the agency.
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Supports to implement and expand employment and service opportunities.
- Apply industry best practices, such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and ISO certification standards, to improve business operations and support continuous process improvement.
- Monitor and optimize work systems to enhance efficiency, productivity, and service quality.
- Manage customer satisfaction efforts by collecting and analyzing feedback to drive targeted improvements.
Physical Plant & Safety
- Ensure a safe and compliant work environment by implementing and monitoring workplace safety protocols for all associates.
- Identify and oversee facility improvements and maintenance projects to enhance safety, accessibility, and functionality for both associates and people supported.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, promptly addressing any safety concerns or deficiencies.
- Enforce infection control protocols, including standard precautions, to promote a healthy worksite environment.
External Relations & Communications
- Ensure internal and external communications reflect the agency’s mission, vision, and values, promoting a positive organizational image.
- Participate in community activities and organizations to enhance public awareness and understanding of the agency.
- Build and maintain relationships with businesses, industries, and partner agencies to foster collaboration and goodwill.
Talent Management
- Supervise the Business Operations Division, providing leadership and guidance to associates.
- Attract, develop, and retain talented individuals by creating a learning environment that helps associates reach their full potential and supports the organization in meeting its goals.
- Encourage team-based approaches within the Business Operations Division and collaborate on agency-wide team initiatives.
- Set clear performance goals, track progress, provide feedback, address performance issues, and document relevant information for Human Resources as needed.
- Ensure associates have the necessary resources to meet goals aligned with the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
- Oversee compliance with agency-required training programs.
Additional Functions
- Facilitate designated meetings and committees to support business operations and agency objectives.
- Participate in agency committees, such as Leadership, Safety, Corporate Compliance, and others as assigned.
- Represent the agency in external groups, including the Collaborative of NY and other relevant trade organizations.
- Assist in implementing business operations strategies and policies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Maintain relationships with industry partners, regulatory agencies, and community organizations to support business initiatives.
- Stay informed on industry trends and compliance requirements to ensure operational effectiveness
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to implement and uphold policies and procedures in a way that fosters understanding and commitment.
- Proficiency in analyzing and presenting technical reports and data in a clear and practical manner.
- Skilled in planning, organizing, and coordinating business operations, as well as implementing policies and procedures effectively.
- Experience in fiscal management, data analysis, and problem-solving to support operational efficiency and business growth.
Education And Experience
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Services, Manufacturing, Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, or a related field with five (5) years of management experience, including supervisory responsibilities in for-profit or non-profit businesses, or
- Associate’s degree in a relevant field with seven (7) years of management experience, including supervisory responsibilities in for-profit or non-profit businesses.
- Experience in Quality Improvement strategies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, ISO-9000) is preferred.
- Experience working with people with disabilities is preferred but not required.
Additional Qualifications/Requirements
AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
People: This position has direct authority over the associates within the Business Operations Division and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the division. The Director collaborates with personnel at all levels across other divisions, providing advisory support and guidance on matters related to the employment of people.
Operations: This position coordinates employment related businesses and services provided by the agency. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with state and federal laws. This position has access to a high level of confidential data including personnel, financial and HIPAA protected information.
Budget: Responsible for overseeing the budget within the Business Operations Division, ensuring that expenditures align with planned allocations. Monitors financial performance and works to maintain efficiency, addressing any variances to support the agency's operational goals and mission.
