Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer
Private Family Office
A private family office is seeking a highly capable Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial, administrative, operational, tax, estate, real estate accounting, and family office service functions.
Reporting directly to family leadership, this executive will oversee internal office staff and coordinate a broad network of external advisors, including legal, tax, estate planning, investment, real estate, banking, insurance, and consulting partners. The role requires a hands-on, trusted leader who can combine financial discipline, operational execution, advisor management, confidentiality, and family office judgment.
Key Responsibilities
The COO/CFO will lead the core functions of the family office, including:
- Accounting, bookkeeping, budgeting, cash management, financial reporting, and long-term cash flow forecasting
- Tax planning coordination, estate planning support, trust administration, charitable foundation administration, compliance, and related advisor management
- Family office administration, internal controls, office processes, systems, documentation, and technology improvements
- Financial reporting and balance sheet reporting for individual family units and related entities
- External advisor management, including attorneys, tax advisors, estate planners, investment advisors, bankers, insurance advisors, real estate advisors, and consultants
- Real estate accounting, reporting, contract review coordination, pricing review support, and coordination with external real estate professionals
- Human resources, office administration, staff leadership, accountability, and workflow management
- Investment administration, including tracking, reporting, recordkeeping, back-office operations, and execution of approved decisions
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will bring a blend of CFO-level financial expertise, COO-level operational leadership, and family office service orientation. This person should be comfortable working in a private, high-trust environment where discretion, responsiveness, accuracy, and sound judgment are essential.
Strong candidates will have experience with:
- Family office operations, private wealth administration, closely held business entities, or complex family structures
- Tax, estate, trust, foundation, insurance, and regulatory compliance coordination
- Financial reporting, entity-level accounting, cash management, budgeting, and cash flow forecasting
- Working with external advisors to ensure timely, accurate, cost-effective service delivery
- Real estate accounting, entity reporting, transaction support, and external professional coordination
- Leading small professional teams and improving systems, controls, reporting processes, and accountability
- Investment accounting, investment reporting, or investment operations in support of an existing portfolio
