About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the Heiltsuk Tribal Council (HTC), the CFO is a key member of the senior executive management team and will support the implementation of financial strategic plans and financial management plans, to achieve the goals and objectives of the HTC. Working with a well established finance team, the CFO will ensure organization-wide compliance with the Nation’s Financial Administration Law, and will oversee the financial management system. The CFO will work with a variety of management staff to support the annual budget planning process, and will also support the work of the annual audit process. The CFO will collaborate with arms-length entities to support the completion of the annual audit. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing the fiscal responsibilities of the organization in collaboration with the CEO, and will assist and support the HTC in guiding their fiduciary responsibilities it as it relates to operational finances, audits, and investments. Working collaboratively with other members of the Executive Management Team, the CFO will monitor and ensure financial obligations are met, including compliance reporting.
About You
You have a post-secondary education, a professional financial designation, and a minimum of 10 years’ experience working at the senior executive level, in accounting and finance. You have experience managing a finance team and department, and experience working with a broad range of funding programs. Your previous experience includes working in a First Nations community, and you possess a clear understanding about Financial Administration Law. You are looking for a mid-to-long term commitment. Your Essential Skills Include
- Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA designation
- Experience working at a senior finance management level and leading and supporting a finance team
- Proficiency in accounting software and systems
- Knowledge and understanding of federal and provincial programs and policies/internal controls related to First Nations governments, including fund accounting
- Knowledge and understanding of financial modeling, financial analysis, cash flow management and monitoring, investments and economic development.
- Experience leading individuals through the budget planning process
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
- Professional communication
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
- Satisfactory completion of a police information check, and a class 5 driver’s license.

About the Total Rewards
The base compensation is an annual salary of $104,000 to $124,000, based on education and experience. In addition to professional development opportunities, other benefits include:
