Job Purpose:
The Business Applications Analyst is a key liaison between university customers and IT support departments. The role involves assisting customers in utilizing the university's ERP system, Ellucian Banner, as well as third-party software tools and custom-written applications. The position also involves creating functional specifications, leading software-based solutions implementation, and preparing user and system documentation, including test plans. Additionally, the Business Applications Analyst is responsible for providing user support for Ellucian Banner, along with analyzing and interpreting data to provide insights into the university's operations. They work closely with various departments to identify areas of improvement and develop strategies to optimize performance.
This is an on-campus position located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Essential Duties:
- This role reviews business processes, defines problems, and specifies functional requirements for university customers such as academic departments, administrative departments, and university committees/working groups. It also documents the requirements that clearly define the customers project
- Serve as support or backup support person to other Enterprise Application Services staff- Collaborate with others to assist in the analysis of potential solutions and designs of recommended solutions for existing enterprise software application(s), new software application(s), custom developed application(s), or purchasing 3rd party software application(s), along with assisting in the enhancement of procedural processes and workflows
- Collaborate with university customers, business applications analysts, developers, and other stakeholders to assist in the creation, modification, documentation, and testing of APIs for the universitys applications
- Illustrate and document enterprise application interactions with internal and external systems, including configurations and customizations
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues by seeking vendor and/or university IT department support
- Manage updates, patches, and upgrades for applications, including scheduling upgrades in test and production environments, testing new versions, and providing advance information to affected users
- Maintain and update test plans and scripts to include new features and test related applications and interfaces- Follow the standard emergency and downtime notification policies and procedures for the University and its divisions
- Stay abreast of new or changed features and functions within the enterprise applications, including the addition and configuration of the new features or functions
- Adhere to Security Standards, including HIPAA and FERPA
- Adhere to university standard policies and procedures, including IT security and change management policies and procedures-
Guide university customers on using enterprise systems and applications to improve operational efficiency, meet strategic needs, and solve business problems
- Create detailed functional requirements for screen, report, and user interface design for development and issue resolution
- Ensure software is designed and developed to meet the specific needs of the business and its customers, consult with potential vendors to discuss the requirements, and verify that the package(s) selected will meet customer needs
- To ensure successful project outcomes, conduct regular reviews with university customers and Enterprise Application Services manager. Define schedules, resources, and identify obstacles. Follow-up with application developers to verify custom software meets requirements
- Assess software upgrades, updates, enhancements, and new application installations. Conduct testing of new applications, major revisions, or upgrades to existing applications. Document and troubleshoot application performance and software support issues

- Proficient in using Office 365 suite
- Collaborate with auditors to review system access, function, security, etc.
- Ability to analyze, organize and report data/information for multiple audiences/purposes

- Ability to document project scope using university business terminology
- Efficiently collect non-technical user requirements via observation, interviews, surveys, and document reviews.

- Familiarity with formal project management practices
- Ability to evaluate vendor software packages
- Ability to construct a Request for Proposal for vendor software packages

- Ability to lead investigation into application issues and products
- Highly self-motivated and directed
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Knowledge of application/data privacy practices and laws (HIPAA and FERPA preferred)
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required

Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in computing sciences, information systems or related experience is required
Preferred Education:
Minimum Job Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of four (4) years combined experience in business process analysis, functional requirements determination, project management, vendor management, software design and development, and data management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education, along with the following preferred experience and/or skills
- Experience with creating, troubleshooting, and optimizing SQL queries incorporating joins, subqueries, and aggregations
- Experience with Microsoft Power Automate and Power Apps
- Experience with Ellucian Banner and the following modules: Student, Financial Aid, Admissions and Document Management
- Familiarity with Ellucian Experience, Slate, D2L/BrightSpace, or other Learning management systems (LMS)
