POSITION SUMMARY
Direct and manage all practices and activities in the Finance and Accounting functions to ensure compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations. Manage accounting and recordkeeping activities of the Credit Union to ensure they meet generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP). Other responsibilities include but are not limited to budget preparation, income forecasts, and operational changes, as needed. The CFO reports directly to the President/CEO and is a member of the Executive Team. As a management team member, this role will contribute to the credit union's long-term direction, policies, and procedures and provide strategic planning and operational management decisions.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting and a minimum of five years accounting experience required. CPA designation and/or two years credit union experience is a plus. Strong relationship and leadership skills are critical.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough understanding of accounting systems and internal accounting controls. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and strong computer skills are required. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Knowledge of asset/liability management, investments, and budgeting. Knowledge of cash management, expenditure, and disbursement processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be bondable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares all required/scheduled reports that summarize and forecast the credit union's business activity and financial position in assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.

Directs preparation of operating and other budgets, including preparation and analysis of subsequent variance reports as required.

A member of the Asset/Liability Management (ALM) Committee. Supports senior management and the ALM Committee by developing, preparing, and analyzing relevant reports.

Serves as the management liaison to the Audit Committee. Supports the Committee's work by preparing requested reports and analyses and assisting with designated internal audit tasks.

Manages investment portfolio. Recommends purchasing or selling securities and investments, ensuring compliance with the Credit Union's Investments and ALM policies, goals, objectives, and all applicable state and federal rules and regulations.

Prepares and issues periodic financial and operating reports that adequately depict the credit union's financial condition.

Directs determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets.

Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to regulatory change, current economic issues, and related matters that may impact the financial stability and soundness of the credit union.

Works with external auditors and federal and state credit union examiners to ensure the credit union complies with prescribed accounting methods set out in regulation, law, FASB rules, and generally accepted accounting principles.

Responds appropriately to exceptions and other recommendations.

Responsible for vendor management process and maintenance.
Internal Controls and Risk Management

Oversees the creation and maintenance of financial systems and procedures necessary to maintain proper records and adequate accounting systems controls and services. Is responsible for entire Accounting Department.

Manages the corporate insurance portfolio and advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.

Develops and implements financial policies. Monitors and reports on the interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and assists in developing strategies to mitigate these risks.

Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.
Payroll and Benefits Administration-
Serve as Plan administrator for the Defined Benefit Plan and 401k Plan.
Attend conferences, institutes, and education sessions, as needed. Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage the departments of accounting and records retention in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Excellent leadership and administration abilities. Oversees the budgeting, auditing, and bookkeeping departments.

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the President/CEO. Must collaborate with the management team, the board of directors, and all staff members. Works closely with the Accounting and Compliance Departments. Has contact with all members and potential members. Engages in business with vendors, regulators, and similar colleagues within the credit and banking industry.
HOURS
The hours of this job are standard and related to the needs of the membership and business flow. General hours are 8:00 – 5:00 Monday through Friday, although hours may change based on department needs.
