CFO/Senior Controller
A leading family-owned agricultural farming, processing and marketing company is looking for a talented leader who can guide the financial and operational systems that empower us. Our company operates in a multi-entity environment, all involved in the Agribusiness sector. We’re searching for an experienced CFO/Senior Controller to join our team of high-performing professionals and keep our finances, operations, employees, and owners positioned for continued success. The CFO/Senior Controller will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on all company operations, helping us to analyze, strategize, implement, and grow our financial position. This seasoned strategist will understand current accounting practices and trends, be able to budget and forecast effectively, have experience raising and appropriating capital, confidently maintain and grow relationships with employees, growers, vendors, and customers, adapt to and implement change, both financially and operationally. As a member of senior management, the CFO/Senior Controller will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills, and a positive approach to building the organizations.
Responsibilities
· Manage all accounting operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and audits
· Oversee cost accounting for crop processing and production, ensuring accurate tracking of raw materials, labor, and overhead costs
· Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and make certain that all transactions are complete and properly recorded.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, variance analysis, and commentaries for multiple entities involved in farming, plant management and corporate leadership
· Analyze financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency in crop processing and distribution.
· Manage inventory valuation and costing for raw harvest, work-in-progress, and finished products
· Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
· Financially manage the company’s fixed assets, including better production optimization, decision-making on purchases, financing, or leasing of new assets, and retirement or sale of older or underutilized assets
· Collaborate with plant managers to develop budgets and forecasts for production and distribution activities
· Maintain loan agreements and covenants associated with the company’s outside lenders.
· Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and industry-specific accounting standards
· Work with the outside tax professional to ensure that returns for multiple entities are timely filed and that appropriate accrual vs. tax entries are produced.
· Assume some of the duties of the retiring CFO over time.
Reporting Relationships
· Reports directly to the CFO, with dotted line relationships to the CEO and Owner officer.
· Lead the financial organization consisting of HR, IT, A/P, A/R and Payroll
· Develop relationships with outside agencies, our outside CPA, and our Attorney Trustee
Location
· Primarily operational location with be the Chico
· Occasional travel to Williams/Arbuckle/Colusa area
· May commute from Sacramento, Davis, Vacaville and similar locations.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
· 15+ years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing environment
· Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and inventory management in food production
· Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
· Experience with or similar agricultural-specific accounting software
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
· Strong leadership abilities and communication skills with experience managing accounting teams
Preferred
· CPA preferred
· Experience in the agriculture or food manufacturing industry
· Experience in implementing new financial or IT systems
· Knowledge of food safety regulations and their financial implications
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $130,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
