Overview
A growing, multi-state commercial construction firm is seeking a forward-thinking CFO to join its executive leadership team. This leader will be responsible for elevating financial strategy, strengthening operational performance, and guiding the company through its next phase of scale. The role requires a hands-on executive who understands the nuances of construction financials and can bring structure, visibility, and discipline to a rapidly expanding organization currently operating above $150M in annual revenue and targeting continued growth.
Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team, contributing to long-term planning, forecasting, and organizational decision-making.
- Oversee all core financial functions accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial reporting, and risk management.
- Improve financial rigor across the organization, partnering closely with operations to drive project profitability, cost control, and margin expansion.
- Build financial frameworks and capital strategies to support scaling beyond the $200M+ revenue mark.
- Implement systems, processes, and reporting tools that increase transparency and operational efficiency across departments.
- Provide oversight of multi-state financial compliance, including tax, regulatory, insurance, and bonding requirements.
- Lead tax planning efforts and identify opportunities to optimize the company’s tax position.
- Manage key external relationships including banks, bonding partners, insurers, auditors, and advisors.
- Develop a high-performing finance and accounting team with strong talent, training, and succession planning.
- Create and maintain KPIs, dashboards, and metrics that support data-driven leadership decisions.
- Support evaluation of strategic growth initiatives, including potential acquisitions and integrations.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership, ideally including experience as a CFO, VP of Finance, or Controller in a construction or related project-based industry.
- Direct experience supporting companies at $150M+ in revenue and contributing to scale toward $200–$250M.
- Expertise in construction finance, including job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, project controls, and multi-state accounting environments.
- Strong command of U.S. tax regulations and tax-efficient planning strategies.
- A leadership style that combines strategic insight with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and work directly with operational teams.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with founders, executives, and field leaders.
- CPA or MBA preferred, but not required.
