Berrigan Shire Council is seeking applications for the position of Chief Financial Officer. You will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of Council's financial systems, accounting, payments and revenue receipting, payroll and statutory reporting activities in line with policy, statutory and professional standards. The Chief Financial Officer will seek to ensure these functions are meeting the needs of Council and will be required to provide advice and direction to Council and management.
Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:
- Provide strategic and operational advice regarding the Council’s finances to the Chief Executive Officer, ELT and Council;
- Oversee the preparation and monitoring of the Council’s Capital and Operating budgets and Long Term Financial Plans;
- Prepare statutory and management reports relating to the Council’s financial position and performance – including the Annual Financial Statements;
- Investigate opportunities, identify risks and advise on appropriate financial management of Council’s cash and investments;
- Manage the Council’s financial functions, including accounting, rating, debtors, creditors, payroll and procurement;
- Lead and direct the Council’s Finance seeking out opportunities for continuous improvement
- Perform the statutory duties of the Council’s Responsible Accounting Officer.
This is a full-time position classified as Executive Band 4, Level 2, offering a total remuneration package between $180,000 and $190,000. This includes allowances and 12% superannuation. The role operates on a 70-hour, 9-day fortnight, with conditions aligned to the Local Government (State) Award 2023.
