Position Overview
The Director, Business Operations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of Brandon University’s Business Operations portfolio, which includes Ancillary Services (Residence, Parking, Student ID Centre, Conference Services), Food Services, the Healthy Living Centre (HLC), and Bookstore relations. Reporting to the Vice-President (Administration & Finance), this position ensures efficient, student-centered service delivery, financial sustainability, and compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards. The Director drives revenue-generating initiatives, sponsorships, and external partnerships, while contributing to long-term planning for residence, dining, and recreation spaces. This role fosters a culture of mentorship and professional growth, ensures alignment with collective agreements, and promotes integrated service delivery through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities (approximate time allocation)
Operational Oversight & Service Delivery (30%)
- Lead and support Managers of Food Services, Ancillary Services, and HLC to ensure effective, student-focused operations.
- Oversee HLC programming, facility management, and community engagement.
- Manage Bookstore relations and ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
- Maintain compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards across all service units.
- Review and update policies and procedures to ensure equity and alignment with collective agreements.
Strategic Planning & Revenue Development (25%)
- Develop and implement strategies to generate new revenue streams.
- Secure sponsorships and external partnerships to enhance services.
- Contribute to long-term planning for residence, dining, and recreation spaces, including capital renewal and infrastructure upgrades.
- Monitor and report performance metrics to the VP (Administration & Finance).
Leadership & Staff Development (15%)
- Support succession planning, performance management, and staff development initiatives.
- Foster a culture of mentorship and professional growth.
- Maintain positive labor relations and alignment with collective agreements.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration (15%)
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Student Services, Facilities, Finance) to enhance integrated service delivery and student experience.
- Participate on institutional committees and contribute to cross-functional planning.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation (15%)
- Drive continuous improvement using data and feedback to evaluate services and identify opportunities for innovation.
- Promote a culture of service excellence and responsiveness to stakeholder needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, Facilities Management, or related field (Master’s degree considered an asset).
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in operations or ancillary services; experience in post-secondary or public sector preferred.
- Strong financial acumen and strategic planning skills.
- Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple portfolios in a dynamic environment.
Salary
Managers & Professional Officers MPO-VII: $125,779 annually.
