Position Summary
The Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the President & CEO, this highly developed and innovative critical thinker will develop strategies that result in the efficient utilization of financial resources. Translating the Hospital’s strategic directions into outcomes, the CFO will work with the leadership team to enhance the quality of care delivered, realize a positive workplace culture and build partnerships internally and externally.
Responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Leading annual and multi-year operating and capital budgeting processes while providing practical strategic advice supporting the hospital in achieving its financial goals and objectives.
- Leading detailed monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, monitoring and forecasting the hospital's financial position. This includes developing and implementing appropriate analytical tools for reviewing financial and statistical information to enable effective decision making.
- Contributing financial expertise and analysis in support of innovative approaches to health system and health funding reform, models of care, procurement and analytics.
- Focusing on quality improvement through ongoing monitoring and implementation of initiatives and remedies to provide high quality financial services to all stakeholders.
- Monitoring compliance and producing all required attestations and similar compliance declarations.
- Leading the hospital's planning and execution of work related to internal and external audits.
- Regularly presenting to hospital senior leadership and Board Committees on matters related to the financial health of the hospital.
- Directing and monitoring policies and procedures related to financial management within the hospital.
- Continuing to advance a financial strategy that effectively positions the team as strategic business partners across the Hospital and Healthcare System.
- Identifying opportunities to position the Hospital for future success in Ontario’s evolving landscape of healthcare funding and service delivery models.
- Providing strategic and operational leadership regarding financial opportunities and challenges, projected growth and government funding changes, investment and business planning, and risk management initiatives.
- Continuing to build internal and external leadership within a multi-stakeholder environment.
Essential Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA, CA or CGA) and will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, or a health leadership related program.
- Ten years’ experience in progressive leadership roles in related fields (finance and accounting), in complex multi-stakeholder environment(s). Experience in healthcare and/or public sector/not-for-profit is an asset.
- Strong business acumen with solid experience in business management, financial planning, performance measurement and budgeting functions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, as well as provide credible analysis and business recommendations.
- High emotional intelligence with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex financial issues to a broad audience.
- Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment while experiencing financial constraints.
- Evidence of a collaborative leadership style with effective team building skills across interdisciplinary teams.
- Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to form and defend independent judgment with the ability to influence others and outcomes.
- Proven experience achieving results that improve the organization and inspire confidence and commitment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively handle a large number of issues simultaneously.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently and accurately under stressful conditions to meet tight deadlines.
- Must be change orientated and possess an attitude of continuous improvement.
- Ability to gain cooperation and support through effective use of influence and persuasion required as an agent of change.
- Broad knowledge of health care system design, related issues and trends, policies and up to date knowledge of current legislations.
- Ability to coach, mentor and develop leaders within the financial services team.
- Excellent computer skills with superior knowledge of Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis
