On-Campus Executive Role
Hunter Ambrose has been retained to recruit a Chief Financial Officer for a Critical Access Hospital located on the Oregon Coast. This is a senior, on-campus executive leadership role requiring deep expertise in hospital finance and revenue cycle operations within a highly collaborative, mission-driven environment.
The CFO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, working closely with the Board of Directors to ensure fiscal strength, operational alignment, and long-term sustainability.
Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the financial stewardship of the organization, including budgeting, reporting, revenue cycle oversight, strategic growth initiatives, and departmental leadership. This role requires an engaged, visible leader who partners closely with clinical and operational teams and contributes meaningfully to the hospital’s culture and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities Include
Financial Leadership
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and pro forma development
- Ensure fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational strategy
- Maintain strong internal controls and financial discipline
Board Reporting
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors (written and verbal)
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to executive leadership and the Board
Operational Engagement
- Participate in daily rounding and maintain a visible leadership presence
- Foster collaboration across departments and alignment with organizational values
Organizational Snapshot
- Projected 2025 gross revenue: $80 million
- Average daily census: 9 patients
- Financial systems and tools include MediTech, Microsoft Office, and Outlook
- Collaborative workflow environment without a formal project management structure
Candidate Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- MBA, Master’s in Accounting, or CPA strongly preferred
- Healthcare finance certifications preferred (EHRC, FHFMA ideal)
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in healthcare finance and revenue cycle
- 2+ years of stable and high-performing CFO experience at a Critical Access Hospital preferred
- Strong background in budgeting, strategic planning, and operational oversight
- Critical Access Hospital reimbursement experience strongly preferred
- Exceptionally well-qualified candidates without CAH experience will be considered
Compensation & Relocation
- Base salary range: $175,000 – $225,000, based on credentials and experience
- Sign-on bonus paid over the first six months
- Relocation assistance available and negotiable
- On-campus executive role with organizational support for relocation is negotiable
