Our reserve lands are located on Leey’qsun (Valdes Island), and our Administration Office is situated just north of Duncan, BC, on Halalt First Nation reserve.

What You’ll Do:
Lyackson First Nation is seeking a skilled CFO who will provide both strategic and hands-on leadership for the Nation’s financial management, reporting, and compliance. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Chief & Council, this role supports sound decision-making, long-term sustainability, and transparency in the stewardship of Nation resources.
The CFO leads a small finance team and is responsible for payroll, budgeting, audits, financial reporting, and funding compliance across all Nation entities. This position ensures accurate financial processes, strong internal controls, and clear, timely information for Council, senior leadership, and community members.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead financial planning, budgeting, and reporting aligned with the Nation’s goals.
· Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and general accounting operations.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and manage year-end audits.
· Ensure compliance with funding agreements (ISC, FNHA, CMHC, etc.) and internal policies.
· Maintain accurate records and internal controls in accordance with GAAP.
· Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making.
· Supervise and mentor finance staff; strengthen financial capacity across departments.
· Support transparency through clear communication and community reporting.
· Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
What You Bring:
· CPA designation (CA, CGA, or CMA) or equivalent education/experience.
· 5+ years of progressive experience in financial management or accounting.
· Experience in Indigenous government, non-profit, or public sector settings required.
· Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, and financial systems (e.g., Adagio, Sage 50).
· Excellent analytical and communication skills; detail-oriented and collaborative.
· Cultural awareness and commitment to supporting the Nation’s values and vision.
· Ability to successfully completion of a criminal and credit check.
