The University of Virginia Law School Foundation seeks a Chief Financial Officer to join our executive team. This position will report to the President.
General Responsibilities
Responsible for the management and operations of the Treasurer’s Office at the University of Virginia Law School Foundation. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees the treasury staff and advises the President, the Chief Development Officer, and the Chief Operating Officer on all matters pertaining to accounting, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, budget preparation and fiscal planning, financial information systems, financial statement preparation, and investing.
The Chief Financial Officer works with the Foundation’s audit firm to remain up to date on non-profit best practices for audit and to ensure timely preparation of financial statements for annual audit and tax reporting. The CFO is responsible for ensuring effective internal controls are in place – including but not limited to an annual review of financial operating procedures to ensure appropriate delegation and segregation of duties, compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting and non-profit operations.
The CFO serves as the Foundation’s liaison to the Board of Trustee’s budget and finance committee, investment committee, and audit committee. The CFO provides financial analysis and input to support organizational planning as needed by the board and the executive team. At bi-annual board meetings the CFO provides a presentation on financial health, proposed budget information, and other fiduciary data points to the Board.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration required.
- Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
- Seven to ten years of experience in financial management required.
- Nonprofit experience preferred.
- Extensive financial and budget management experience is required.
Skills
- Strong leadership, strategic planning, and team building skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Executive level aptitude in fiscal management and accounting is required.
- Must be skilled in using financial management software commonly used in higher education.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Pay: $145,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year
