We're seeking an experienced financial leader to serve as our part-time CFO, providing strategic financial guidance and oversight to our business.
This role will be instrumental in managing our financial operations across multiple jurisdictions (UK, USA, and Norway) while supporting our growth and fundraising objectives.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Financial Management & Reporting
- Coordinate with outsourced accounting teams in the UK, USA, and Norway to ensure accurate periodic and year-end accounts are completed and filed on time
- Prepare regular cash flow forecasts for UK and USA operations, ensuring adequate funding across all entities at all times
- Generate purchase orders for both UK and USA operations, ensuring proper matching with deliveries and invoices for timely payment processing
Payroll & Compliance
- Oversee outsourced payroll providers in the UK and USA to ensure accurate monthly/bi-weekly payroll processing and timely completion of annual filings
- Manage the Enterprise Management Incentive (EMI) scheme for employees in both the UK and USA
Legal & Contractual Support
- Provide ad hoc legal support for commercial contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and fundraising documentation including subscription agreements
- If required, prepare EIS advanced assurance submissions, manage HMRC relationships, and prepare post-fundraise compliance packs for distribution of EIS paperwork (noting this will transition to the new Shareholder register provider)
- Responsible for the management of the new Shareholder register provider
Fundraising & Investor Relations
- Support fundraising activities, typically through private placement mechanisms
- Manage the soon-to-be-outsourced Shareholder register, serving as first-line support for investor queries, lost documentation, deceased investor matters, and general shareholder questions
Risk Management
- Oversee all insurance requirements for UK and USA operations, including product liability, travel insurance, combined liability, Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance, and other relevant coverages
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Develop and execute financial strategy aligned with company goals
- Provide financial insights to support operational decisions and capital investments
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls across all jurisdictions
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CFO, Finance Director, or senior financial leader with at least 5-8 years in a similar role
- Strong background in the engineering, manufacturing, or industrial sectors
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-jurisdictional financial operations (UK/USA experience essential)
- Deep understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, and supply chain financial dynamics
- Experience coordinating with outsourced service providers (accountants, payroll providers, etc.)
- Knowledge of UK tax incentive schemes (EMI, EIS) and US equivalent programs
- Experience supporting fundraising activities and investor relations
- Excellent understanding of financial controls, compliance requirements, and risk management
- Strong commercial acumen with experience reviewing and advising on contracts
- ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred
