Carers ACT is the leading for purpose organisation supporting unpaid carers across the ACT.
Carers ACT delivers a variety of services across both aged care and disability services including respite, group programs, and post-hospital support. Significantly, as the Carer Gateway delivery partner for the ACT region, we connect carers to essential services, emergency support, and practical assistance.

The role
Carers ACT is seeking an experienced, purpose-driven leader to join our executive team as our first Chief Financial Officer. This new role oversees finance, digital, governance and risk functions during a period of significant organisational growth.
Reporting to the CEO, you will enable strong organisational decision making through financial integrity, clear reporting and modernised financial and risk frameworks.
You will uplift digital capability and ensure governance structures support high quality service delivery in a complex regulatory environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across finance, IT, governance and enterprise risk functions to support organisational objectives and sustainability. Together these teams comprise 11 staff.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting to support evidence-based decisions across our Aged Care and NDIS services.
- Ensure strong financial governance, controls and compliance with statutory, funding and regulatory requirements including ACNC and government grant acquittals.
- Oversee and develop contemporary IT systems that support service delivery, data integrity and operational efficiency.
- Embed robust risk management and compliance frameworks, including internal controls, policy oversight and assurance processes.
- Provide high-quality strategic advice to the CEO and Board and lead engagement with the Board’s Finance and Risk Committee.
- Lead, develop and inspire high-performing teams, fostering accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Relevant finance qualifications and extensive financial leadership experience, ideally in the community services, aged-care health or disability sectors.
- Proven experience in financial governance, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting in government funded environments.
- Strong understanding of risk management, compliance and regulatory obligations relevant to not-for-profit and human services organisations.
- Experience overseeing IT or digital transformation programs.
- Demonstrated ability to provide financial assurance and trusted advice at the CEO and board level.
- Ability to translate complex financial and risk information into clear, actionable insights for executive and board audiences.
- Hold or able to obtain national police check, working with vulnerable people card (WWVP) and NDIS worker clearances.
Desirable Skills
- CPA or CA qualifications.
- Experience managing philanthropic funding, including reporting and donor compliance requirements.
- Experience working in government funded, aged-care, NDIS or grant-based services environments.
- Understanding of cyber security, data privacy and information governance risks.
