The Chief Financial Officer role will be based in Great Falls, Montana, and will support leadership and operations in both Great Falls and Belgrade. We are seeking a CFO who brings clarity to complexity and helps shape decisions that drive performance today while protecting the company’s long-term health.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Direct long-term financial strategy, capital allocation, and growth planning to ensure sustainable performance in a volatile construction environment.
- Advise the CEO, senior leadership, project teams, and stakeholders on financial implications of operational decisions and business opportunities.
- Analyze market trends, project pipeline, and cost environments to support quick, informed responses to shifting market conditions.
- Ensure all projects align with the company’s financial capacity, risk tolerance, budget projections and long-term objectives.
- Big Picture perspective aligned with strategy.
Cash Flow and Working Capital Management
- Manage complex construction cash-flow cycles, ensuring adequate liquidity to support operations, subcontractors, and equipment needs.
- Forecast cash needs months in advance, maintain working capital reserves, and implement payment schedules aligned with project milestones.
- Maintain strong relationships with lenders, bonding agencies, and financial partners.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Oversee financial risk management including bonding, insurance, contract risk, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with Contract Manager to evaluate project contracts (fixed-price, cost-plus, GMP, etc.) for potential financial and operational exposure.
Financial Operations, Reporting & Controls
- Lead all accounting, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting functions to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- Implement robust financial systems supporting accurate job costing, project reporting, and compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
- Present complex financial data in clear and understandable formats to internal and external stakeholders.
Cross-Department Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with operations, estimating, procurement, and field teams to align financial strategies with organizational goals.
- Identify and measure key performance indicators to help developing others’ financial awareness.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Influence company culture through ethical decision-making, integrity, and transparent communication.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior management roles.
- Extensive financial experience within the construction industry, including project-based accounting, and construction contracting frameworks.
- Experience working with bonding, insurance, lenders, and regulatory compliance in construction.
