Our Client, Compassion Health Care, Inc. (CHC), based in North Carolina, has retained our services to manage the recruitment of a Chief Financial Officer to join their team.

CHC operates comprehensive primary care sites that deliver family medicine, behavioral health and psychiatry, preventive care, chronic disease management, substance use treatment, and urgent care services. Patients also benefit from enabling and care management services designed to remove barriers, improve outcomes, and ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. Through its mobile school-based health program and expanding community partnerships, CHC continues to reach individuals and families where they are, strengthening early access and building healthier futures for youth and underserved populations.

Work Arrangement: The CFO will be offered the flexibility of remote work to the degree collaboratively determined appropriate between the candidate. Ideally, the candidate will reside within either North Carolina or Virginia, however, this is not required.
Salary Range: $115,800 - $173,700
Position Overview:
CHC seeks a strategic, mission-driven financial leader to serve as the next Chief Financial Officer. This executive position is an opportunity to help guide one of North Carolina’s longest-standing community health organizations as we continue to advance health outcomes, expand services, strengthen financial systems, and support the growing needs of the rural and underserved communities we serve. This position will play an integral role in helping to shape CHC's future to ensure that it carries forward its legacy of strong financial stability during the unprecedented healthcare market and reimbursement shifts happening both nationally and within North Carolina.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, accounting, and patient billing, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance.
- Serve as a strategic financial advisor to the CEO, Leadership Teams, and Board of Directors, providing insights that guide organizational priorities and decision‑making.
- Build, mentor, and oversee a high-performing finance team with a focus on accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with operational leaders to integrate financial data into strategy execution, operational performance, and long‑range planning.
- Present clear, timely financial updates to the Board and Finance Committee, supporting strong fiscal stewardship and organizational oversight.
- Manage key external relationships with funders, auditors, banks, and regulatory agencies as the organization’s primary financial representative.
- Uphold Compassion Health Care’s mission by modeling integrity, stewardship, and a commitment to equitable, community-centered health care.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field required. Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) and/or CPA designation preferred
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in financial management within healthcare; preferably 3 or more years CFO-level experience within a FQHC
- Demonstrated proficiency in financial systems (ideally MIP/Abila, UKG and EHB/PMS), data analytics (ideally, eCW/EBO and Azara), internal controls and audit readiness
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Finance leadership experience in a healthcare setting, ideally in an FQHC.
- Demonstrated understanding of revenue cycle optimization, payer contracts, and billing operations.
- Strong background in grants management, federal reporting (such as UDS), and compliance with Uniform Guidance.
- Experience developing budgets and forecasts that support growth, access, and operational sustainability.
- Strong understanding of CMS cost reporting, the way in which it impacts state-level fee-for-service and managed care Medicaid rate setting and management.
- Strong accounting background with expert understanding of ‘best practice’ finance department workflows to support GAAP compliance for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, etc.
- Strong understanding of value-based care arrangements with payers, ACO’s and CIN’s.
- Skilled at building relationships with Boards, funders, auditors, and regulatory agencies.
