Position Summary
The CFO / Controller provides financial leadership for a heavy civil construction company performing site work, underground utilities, paving, and asphalt production. This role is responsible for financial reporting, job costing, cash flow management, banking relationships, and developing systems that deliver real-time operational and financial data to improve profitability and estimating accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all accounting and financial operations including month-end close, financial statements, and WIP reporting.
Ensure accurate job costing and real-time cost tracking across all projects and divisions.
Develop systems to track raw material inventory and monitor usage against bid quantities.
Implement reporting to identify over-ordering, under-ordering, and cost variances to support estimating.
Manage cash flow forecasting, line of credit, and banking relationships.
Oversee AR, AP, billing, and collections to maintain strong working capital.
Lead annual budgeting and rolling financial forecasts.
Support capital planning including equipment purchases and financing decisions.
Track asphalt plant production costs, inventory, and cost per ton performance.
Maintain internal controls and coordinate audits, tax, and compliance requirements.
Develop dashboards and performance reporting for ownership and operations.

Net profit margin and gross profit by division
WIP accuracy and job cost variance
Cash flow performance and working capital
AR and AP days
Inventory accuracy and material usage variance
Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting 7 Cost per ton – asphalt plant
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in construction accounting or finance. Strong experience with construction ERP/accounting software. Expert knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition. Proven ability to build systems for inventory tracking and operational cost reporting. Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills. Strong communication skills with both financial and operations teams. Highly organized, analytical, and deadline-driven.
