UCLA Health is seeking a strategic and visionary Associate Chief Financial Officer to join its senior leadership team and help shape the financial trajectory of one of the nation’s premier academic health enterprises.
As one of six health systems within the University of California, UCLA Health stands among the most comprehensive and respected academic health enterprises in the country. The organization includes 34,000 employees, 4,600 faculty members, nearly 1,500 residents and fellows, and 5,100 nurses across five hospitals and more than 280 clinics, supporting approximately 3.6 million outpatient visits annually.
Reporting directly to the System Chief Financial Officer, the Associate Chief Financial Officer serves as a senior finance executive with enterprise accountability for financial stewardship, performance optimization, and strategic resource alignment across the hospital system. This role is the equivalent of a Vice President for Finance and is dedicated exclusively to the health system and its hospitals.
The Associate Chief Financial Officer provides executive leadership across hospital finance, decision support, procurement, performance management, and revenue cycle alignment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading annual operating and capital budgeting for the hospital enterprise
- Driving long range financial planning aligned with clinical growth, infrastructure modernization, and technology investment
- Overseeing advanced financial analytics, capital allocation modeling, labor optimization, reimbursement strategy, and enterprise reporting
- Partnering with clinical and operational leaders to connect performance drivers to financial outcomes and strengthen contribution margin
- Leading procurement transformation and vendor performance initiatives to reduce non labor expense and enhance supply chain performance
- Ensuring strategic positioning within evolving payer and value based reimbursement models
- Representing Finance in executive governance forums and board level discussions
- Developing and mentoring high performing finance teams across a complex, matrixed academic health system
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in hospital finance, payer methodologies, delegated risk models, capital planning, and financial transformation within large integrated delivery systems. This leader will possess executive presence, exceptional analytical capability, and a demonstrated ability to partner effectively with clinicians and operational leaders to deliver measurable financial and operational results.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Seven to ten years of progressive healthcare financial leadership experience
- Five or more years leading finance teams in complex environments
- Advanced expertise in modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and capital planning
- Strong understanding of academic health systems and multi entity financial operations
Professional certifications such as HFMA, ACHE, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or AAPC are preferred.
The University of California, Los Angeles provides a reasonable compensation estimate for this role. The full salary range is $268,400 to $566,400 annually, with placement based on experience, skills, and organizational needs.
