Director of Services
Defense | SDR | Mission-Critical Engineering Products
Location: Rolling Meadows, IL (preferred) | Frederick, MD (DMV) | Remote considered (US)
Salary: $165k–$185k base (target $175k)
This role is NOT SaaS.
If your background is primarily in SaaS subscriptions, digital platforms, or B2B software services, this is not the right role.
Epiq Solutions builds software-defined radios and processing systems used in defense and national security environments across land, sea, air, and space. This role requires experience delivering services around complex, engineered hardware/software products—ideally in the defense, aerospace, RF, comms, or embedded systems world.
The Opportunity
Epiq is building its services business properly—from zero to scale.
As Director of Services, you will own the strategy, structure, and execution of Epiq’s services function. Your mandate is simple and demanding:
- Build a repeatable, scalable services portfolio
- Drive recurring services revenue
- Professionalize how services are designed, priced, sold, delivered, and governed
This is a hands-on leadership role in a real engineering business—not a customer success “overlay” function.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Own and lead Epiq’s services strategy, reporting directly to executive leadership
- Design, package, and launch customer-facing services including:
- Technical support
- Software maintenance
- Integration & deployment support
- Lifecycle and sustainment services
- Rationalize and standardize existing services into clear, scalable offerings
- Build the end-to-end services lifecycle: ideation → pricing → launch → performance → retirement
- Establish governance, SLAs, and delivery models that work in defense environments
- Lead a centralized, cross-functional services team, working closely with:
- Engineering
- Product
- Integration
- Customer delivery
- Own KPIs around service attach, margin, delivery cost, customer outcomes, and revenue contribution
- Drive a culture of urgency, accountability, and execution
What We’re Looking For
You should apply if you have:
- 10+ years in defense, aerospace, RF, comms, or complex engineering product companies
- Direct experience building or transforming a services function around physical or hybrid products
- Proven success launching paid services tied to engineered systems
- Strong understanding of services P&L, pricing models, and margins
- Credibility working with engineering-led organizations
- Experience operating in mission-critical, regulated, or government environments
Nice to have (not required):
- SDR, RF systems, embedded systems, or EW exposure
- Prior DoD / NATO / government customer experience
What You Probably Are NOT
- A career SaaS customer success leader
- Someone whose experience is limited to NPS scores and renewal motions
- A lightweight “process” leader without delivery accountability
