Divisional Chief Financial Officer

About the Role
Workspire is partnering with a leading national construction services organization seeking a Divisional Chief Financial Officer to serve as the senior financial leader for one of its major operating divisions. This role works directly with the Division President and executive leadership team to drive financial performance, operational discipline, and strategic growth across a complex portfolio of projects and service lines.
The Divisional CFO will oversee all financial operations for the division, including financial planning, project financial oversight, capital allocation, and reporting, while ensuring the financial infrastructure supports the organization’s continued expansion.
Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
- Serve as the primary financial advisor to the Division President and executive leadership team.
- Provide strategic financial insight to support operational decision making and long-term growth initiatives.
- Lead long-range financial planning and scenario modeling aligned with divisional and corporate strategy.
- Translate operational performance into financial insights that improve margins, efficiency, and capital deployment.
Construction Financial Management
- Oversee financial performance across a diverse portfolio of construction and industrial services projects.
- Ensure accurate ASC 606 revenue recognition and percentage-of-completion accounting across all contracts.
- Lead Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, including cost-to-complete analysis, margin tracking, and backlog forecasting.
- Partner with project management and operations teams to monitor job profitability, change orders, and cost variances.
- Implement strong financial discipline around job costing, billing cycles, and retainage management.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Own divisional budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
- Develop financial models that analyze project margins, backlog conversion, and working capital requirements.
- Monitor key financial metrics including project margin performance, cash flow, and operational KPIs.
- Lead forecasting efforts, including rolling cash flow and operational performance projections.
Operational Partnership
- Partner closely with project executives, estimators, and operations leaders to improve project financial visibility.
- Evaluate major project bids and contracts to assess financial risk and return profiles.
- Implement financial reporting tools that provide real-time insight into project performance and backlog conversion.
- Align field operations with financial accountability and operational efficiency.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and strong financial controls across divisional operations.
- Manage financial relationships with auditors, lenders, insurance providers, and bonding partners.
- Evaluate and mitigate financial risk related to contracts, subcontractor performance, and supply chain volatility.
Leadership
- Lead and develop the divisional finance and accounting organization.
- Build scalable financial processes that support continued organizational growth.
- Foster strong collaboration between finance, operations, and executive leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior finance roles in construction, engineering, or industrial services.
- Deep expertise in construction accounting practices, including:
- ASC 606 revenue recognition
- Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting
- Job cost accounting
- Percentage-of-completion accounting
- Retainage and change order management
- Experience supporting project-based organizations with large contract portfolios.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to partner closely with senior operational leaders.
